Preparation for Easter (02/17/23)

This week (beginning with Ash Wednesday on the 22nd) opens the season of Lent for the rest of the Christian world. Due to an introduction I did from my days at British Academy Summer School, I still have this summary from BBC I recently found on my computer:

"Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.

Whereas Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus after the crucifixion, Lent recalls the events leading up to and including it. This is believed to have taken place in Roman occupied Jerusalem. The Christian churches that observe Lent in the 21st century use it as a time for prayer and penance."

I have always appreciated having a time set aside leading into Easter for reflection on and rededication to our spiritual life. Therefore this Sunday's message will introduce the season. (You will also see in the announcements reference to Easter Season readings you can do starting then as well).

Caring for Our Church Day:

On the18th of March our friends from Rincon Rotary (the local club to which the Pastor belongs), Path School, and Kindermusik will join members of our congregation to help undertake a grounds cleanup and beautify day. Here is the announcement that went out in this week's Rotary bulletin:

"We will have a clean-up project on March 18 at 9am (until noon) at Rev. Ethan McCardell’s church, Sunrise Chapel, 8421 E. Wrightstown Rd. Please bring rakes, hula hoes, shovels, and any other yardwork tools you may have along with your gloves."

Maintaining Our Space:

The Sunrise Chapel staff wanted to alert our members to recent unanticipated maintenance that has been required to keep our facilities running smoothly. We have recently had $3,365 of plumbing repair and expense (with more to come) to get our bathrooms and kitchens up to working order. The estate of our dear friend Peggy (who recently transitioned to the other word) is having a sale this weekend, and her daughter was hoping we would pass on the info in case any of our members would want to stop by:
