The Meaning of Palm Sunday (04/02/23)

OUR HEAVENLY KING (Vineyard Sunday School Series

[On the very first Palm Sunday] people were glad because they thought [Jesus] was coming to be their new king on earth. Strong enemies had ruled the land of Israel for a long time. The people thought He would gather an army to free them. This was why the people were excited on Palm Sunday and cried out with shouts of praise.

But when the He came into the city, He didn’t do any of the things they had expected Him to do. He didn’t gather an army. He didn’t drive out the rulers who were already there. He did not make Himself the king of Israel with a great ceremony. He didn’t have to do these things. The people didn’t understand that the Lord was already King—the greatest King of all! The Lord is the King of heaven, something far more important than being king over a country in this world.

When we celebrate this day, we think of the Lord as our heavenly King. He has more power than any king on earth. He has the power to conquer evil spirits and protect us from harm. The Lord cares for all of us, more than any earthly king possibly could. And, day by day, He leads us toward His kingdom in Heaven. Celebrate and rejoice in the Lord our King just as the people rejoiced that first Palm Sunday, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” (Luke 19:38)

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SUNDAY (04/02/23)

Palm Sunday Easter Luncheon UPDATE (04/02/23):

This year, as many families will be away for their own celebration of Easter day - the SRC staff has decided to host our traditional Easter day luncheon after church TODAY (04/02/23). Come for good food and fellowship - stay to help serve, share, and clear! HAPPY PALM SUNDAY!

Good Friday Service UPDATE (7pm):

This year our Good Friday service will again feature holy week meditational music (and a live contribution from our own Liz Zeno playing a piece written by Jeremy Rose entitled "Gethsemane."). There will also be the reading of lessons from the end of the Lord's earthly life followed by an opportunity to take communion. Join us!

"Sandwich Day" April 7th UPDATE:

We will once again be making sandwiches for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity (to be distributed to Casa Maria). We will gather in the kitchen at 9am to set our our sandwich making stations with a goal to conclude by 11am. Join us in this special cause!

EASTER SUNDAY SERVICES (04/09/23)

SUNRISE: This year we will again host an Easter Sunrise service outside at the Memorial Garden, 7am. There will be singing a brief message, and an opportunity to take in our beautiful morning surroundings with your church friends. Join us!

REGULAR": We will also host our traditional 11am service, with light snacks afterward. The thought is (after the previous week) upon completion of this service people will be ready for their own Easter dinner. Join us and HAPPY EASTER!
