Why Did the Lord come into the World? - Nathan Gladish
The Advent Season is already upon us! And amidst all the planning and preparations for gift-giving and celebrations, it's a time to focus some attention on the Lord's purpose for coming into the world. What did Jesus' birth and life in the world do for us?

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:
Care For Our Church Morning this Saturday - We are in the midst of preparing for our annual Path to Bethlehem, which is now just one week away! Thank you to Billie Baty and Elise Gladish for helping arrange for the cast and crew! Once again, we will have Jingles, the donkey for scene two as well as four sheep for the shepherd and manger scenes.
Tomorrow we will continue prepping the sets and the areas where the scenes will be. There is also weeding, raking and tree trimming along the path. Come for a hour or for the morning!

Semi-Annual Congregational Meeting THIS Sunday, Nov 27 - See below for an announcement about this meeting, which is required by our By-Laws.

Our Beloved Annual Path to Bethlehem Live, Walk-through Nativity is coming up very quickly! Next Saturday, December 3 from 6-8 pm. See below for more info.

Another Eduardo Costa Concert here at Sunrise Chapel!
I'm looking forward to welcoming Eduardo back for another Christmas concert, with a new repertoire from last year. The concert, open to the public, will be Friday, December 16 at 7 pm. This is a fundraiser for the church; tickets are $20 per person.

With love and respect,
Nathan

Serving The Homeless Project  - UPDATE
Thank you to Judith and Susan for organizing the Helping the Homeless Service Project!
The first distribution of 50 bags to the homeless took place last Saturday morning at Santa Rita Park downtown.
WONDERFUL SUCCESS!
This first distribution was a huge success. All 50 bags of supplies and all the warm clothing items were distributed within an hour to many grateful, needy people.
I am pleased and proud of Susan and Judith and all the volunteers who helped organize this event and everyone who met at the park to serve people directly. Volunteers included several Boy Scouts and their parents, several young ladies adding volunteer hours to their resume, and several other members of Sunrise Chapel providing transportation and miscellaneous help and support.

Thank you, also, to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket for the Mustang being donated by Jim Click. All your ticket purchases through Judith and Susan - every dime - have been directed to this homeless project; Jim Click doesn't take any proceeds from ticket sales. And good luck! Maybe you will be a new car owner in a few weeks!

STILL NEEDED
If you have warm clothing, jackets, coats, sweatshirts, etc. that you are not using and would like to give to a good cause, bring them to Sunrise Chapel and they will be included in one of the upcoming distributions to the homeless who are in need, especially at this time of year.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project so far. It has already been a blessing to many people!
Nathan

Grateful for our Thanksgiving Church Service and Luncheon - last Sunday, Nov. 20
What a wonderful church service to celebrate our gratitude to the Lord, our country, and one another.

The luncheon was GREAT! Thank you to everyone who added to the deliciousness of the feast!  A very happy and grateful gathering!

Semi-Annual Congregational Meeting
Notice of a Meeting on November 27 at 12:15 pm
Dear Sunrise Chapel Members, Associate Members, and Friends,

Our By-Laws specify that we are to have 2 congregational meetings per year – an Annual Meeting in May or June and a Semi-Annual Meeting in October or November. The purpose of the Semi-Annual meeting is to receive interim reports, to approve plans for the remainder of the year, and to transact any other appropriate business.

As Pastor, I hereby call for a brief Semi-Annual Meeting to be held after the church service on Sunday, November 27 during the luncheon. To help keep the meeting brief, I will email a pastor’s report for you to read ahead of time, including an outline of plans for upcoming months. Our Secretary will also circulate the minutes of our most recent Annual Meeting (last June) so that you can read them prior to the meeting. During the meeting, our Treasurer will share a financial status report.

It has been a busy couple of months here, and I’m pleased with and proud of the work that many volunteers and contractors have done and continue to do to help Sunrise Chapel thrive. The Chapel is looking better and better. The new labyrinth is getting used weekly. And as I write this, we are already ramping up for our annual Path to Bethlehem on Saturday December 3. And then the Christmas season will be upon us!

I am also grateful that you all are such an engaged community of people who all rally around our love of the Lord as we understand Him through the teachings of the Bible and the Writings of Swedenborg. As we grow spiritually – individually and together – we are so blessed!

All for now; more to come.
With love and respect,
Nathan

Annual Path to Bethlehem - Saturday December 3 from 6-8 pm
Our beloved Path to Bethlehem is coming up very soon, and I am looking forward to it being as wonderful and magical as ever!
Please consider how YOU can help make this event special - by helping get things set up, baking cookies, putting up lights, being an actor or guide, or any of the many behind the scenes parts.

Talk with Billie who is helping line up the cast and crew.
Or talk with Elise about specific roles and costumes.
Or talk with me about anything else!!
May the Lord bless this special event once again, and may it continue to serve our church and community.
With anticipation and love,
Nathan

New Church Foundations CLASS REUNION
Planning for an evening in January
Recently we concluded another session of this introductory course. Among those who attended, we had 5 people who are relatively new to the church, 2 people born and raised in the church, and 1 who was baptized as an adult a number of years ago.

I love this course. It's been delightful to connect with each other in this group over the weeks we have been meeting. Such a great opportunity to explore basic questions together.

We decided to have a get-together in January and to invite anyone else who has taken the course in the past five years. We're thinking of enjoying a pot luck supper and taking up a new topic for discussion that night, perhaps watching a brief video, too.

Watch for the invitation, date, and time.
Nathan

Thirtieth Anniversary Planning Continues
Next Planning Meeting -- Sunday, December 11 during lunch

This coming March 24-26, 2017 will be the 30th anniversary weekend of the dedication of Sunrise Chapel!! Let's celebrate!

We had another good, energetic planning meeting last Sunday. Several teams of people are working on planning each day's activities. We are also trimming down the wealth of ideas to what we can reasonably fit in the schedule.
Thank you to everyone who is eager to see this event succeed! To get involved, contact Frank Rose, Betsy Gladish, Elise Gladish, or me, Nathan. One of us will answer your questions or direct you to someone who can.

The next planning meeting will be Sunday, December 11 during lunch
Bring your ideas, thought, and questions.
