Dear Friends, Every week, even on a daily basis, I am thankful for many wonderful volunteers at Sunrise Chapel, involved in so many activities and service projects. This past weekend, and throughout this week, I am especially deeply
grateful for all the amazing energy, love, devotion, and sheer physical effort so many people have brought to the table to make the 30th Anniversary Weekend so special. “Thank you” seems so insufficient! I know that the real thanks is internal, personal and individual… A satisfaction in a job well done... An acknowledgement that each of us is gifted with talents, abilities, and resources that
are precious and important to share. And so we have! And thank God for that! Sunrise Chapel is such a wonderful spiritual community, a gift to Tucson and the world. Thank you for being part of it. May the Lord continue to bless us. With love and respect, Nathan

The 30th Anniversary Celebration - WHAT A WEEKEND!
|
Highlights from a Glorious Event!Friday launched the 30th Anniversary Celebration with a "meet and greet" followed by dinner and a slide show of the New Church around the world, through the eyes of our Executive Bishop, Brian Keith.
Then we were treated to a second show of the history of Sunrise Chapel by Pastor Emeritus Frank Rose. Many people remarked how great it was to see photos of churches around the world and to hear the Bishop's accounts of the people he has met who all love the New Church and the teachings given through
Swedenborg. Frank's slideshow was also educational and heartwarming - seeing many photos of people who were instrumental in the building and development of the Chapel. It was so good to see the progress from the beginnings to the present!
Saturday was full and exciting, with many
activities throughout the day. This Family Fun Day included a plant walk in the early morning, continental breakfast, crafts for children (and adults), face painting, TWO jumping castles, a kiddie train, The Speedway Brothers Band, silent auction, prayer flag making station, Tai Chi demonstration, information stations, two food trucks, opportunity to visit the Memorial Garden and the Labyrinth, and more. It was a delight to see so many adults and children involved in visiting and
enjoying the grounds. And what a treat to see so many unfamiliar faces! We really served the community - as we had hoped and planned! It felt like we had hundreds of people come through, though it was really hard to keep track! Saturday evening we had another delicious dinner and the treat of hearing The Band of Roses with all 5 of Frank and Louise
Rose’s children performing together for the first time ever! Following the band's historic performance, seven interesting, educational, sometimes funny, and moving “TED-like” talks rounded out the evening. What a delightful event in itself! And there was more to come!!
Sunday our celebration continued with a very unique and special worship service featuring
the Rose family musicians and a very wonderful community-building activity led by Louise Rose. It was based on a Native American ritual involving water that she had participated in some years ago. What a rich and satisfying experience to combine the wonderful music, inspirational teaching and meditation, and heartwarming personal interaction and application to life in one uplifting service! We closed the weekend celebration with more socializing over a delicious catered
lunch.
Thank You - thank you to each and every one of the many people for all the planning and work that went into making this weekend a delightful success!
With love and
respect, Nathan

A New Look for the Courtyard Garden!
|
|
Here is a photo of the newly transformed Courtyard Garden, now being called The Welcome
Garden! This wonderful transformation now has beautiful non-pokey plantings, new irrigation, ground cover and a lovely, peaceful spill fountain. The benches previously around the outside of the garden are now installed under the
shade of the 30-year-old mesquite tree. It is a beautiful and inviting gathering space. It was so satisfying to see many people enjoying this newly beautified space over the weekend. And what a treat to have the prayer flags that were made on Saturday installed in the garden for an added blessing! "Thank you!" We are grateful to the Glencairn Foundation for the bulk of the funding to accomplish this transformation. And thank you also to Elise Gladish for overseeing the selection of many of the pots, plants, the ground cover, and the fountain.
And thank you to Matt and Rod from Arizona Zenscapes who have worked with us so carefully on the design and installation!

Here is a photo of the completed roof with the Speedway Brothers Band playing on Saturday. Other than temporary fabric shade cloth years
ago, this structure has never had a permanent roof. With gratitude for funding from the Glencairn Foundation, we now have a handsome roof, to provide a shady spot for various gatherings. A huge thank you also to Claudia and Kim Osmus who supervised the construction and helped generously with its completion! Without their initiative, it wouldn't have been completed by our 30th Anniversary Celebration.
It is now being named The Rose Haven Ramada
