One simple and very powerful way to show care is to pray for others This Sunday let's explore together one of the basics of a spiritual life - praying, especially for others. Some people find this simple and easy. Others consider it daunting. Sometimes how difficult it seems depends on
our attitude about the person who needs our prayers. What can we learn from the Lord about this, and what can we learn from each other? Baptisms this Sunday during the Children's talk Plans are in the works for two young children to get
baptized into the New Church this Sunday! Come and show your care and support.

New Direction for "Serving More People Team"
|
Showing we care - Sunday, June 4There's an old saying: "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Isn't this true in general? And
the more deeply you care about someone, the more important it can be to share information and experiences with each other.
About a year ago, a small team of people at Sunrise Chapel started a new effort to serve more people. As a church we want to be serving people in a variety of ways, including members and friends, but also extending that care to others beyond our own church
family.
That team quickly took up the challenge to serve more people through a big, weekend-long 30th anniversary celebration which we successfully pulled off in March. CONGRATULATIONS, EVERYONE! It was a blast, and we accomplished a variety of goals!
Now it's time to get together
again and refocus our efforts to serve more people in ongoing ways.
Our first meeting will be Sunday, June 4 at 12:30 pm. Everyone is welcome as we brainstorm and make some plans.
My vision and hope is that our next efforts will focus on
INCREASING OUR CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER. I am working on a series of spiritual growth tasks around the theme of THE JOY OF SPIRITUAL CARE. Maybe it will become the third in the series of Spiritual Growth books. I truly feel that we can do better to care for one another in ways that foster spiritual community, which is a core value of Sunrise Chapel. Sometimes it happens spontaneously, but other times it takes effort and coordination to care in appropriate and effective
ways.
Please consider coming to the meeting on June 4 at 12:30 pm, and helping Sunrise Chapel increase our care for one another and for the surrounding community.

Sunrise Chapel Book Fair - May 7-21
|
|
Sunrise Chapel has a library and books for sale. The book center is the room between Friendship Hall and the Children’s Chapel. The books we sell are all related to New Church thought. Some are the works of Emanuel Swedenborg, and others are written by authors who have an interest in the theology. Come see what we have! This year we are
hoping to get more books into more readers' hands, so we are having a Book Fair. All the books for sale are greatly reduced in price. We have free books as well. Take a look, and pick up some good reads for yourself and your friends!

REPORT on an Introduction to Emanuel Swedenborg
|
|
Last Monday, May 15 at 6:30 At Sunrise Chapel I am very pleased with the interest expressed by a variety
of groups and people in learning about Emanuel Swedenborg! And thanks, especially, to Genie from United Fellowship Chapel for initiating this educational and ecumenical program.
The program included a short introductory video from the Swedenborg Foundation featuring Jonathan Rose called "Who Was Swedenborg, and What Should I Read?" You can view it yourself on www.swedenborg.com.
Presentations also included one by yours truly, one by Sammie about her artistic lettering of quotations from Swedenborg's works, and one by the pastor emeritus of United Fellowship Chapel, who discovered Swedenborg many years ago and used what he learned in his ministry. The time together was rich and interactive, and we heard amazing testimonials from a variety of others during the evening. There were about 25 people present, from different groups: United Fellowship Chapel, The Temple of
Universality, The Bereavement Support Group, and Sunrise Chapel.

Notice of Annual Meeting - Sunday, June 11 at 12:15 pm
|
Our By-Laws specify that Sunrise Chapel shall have two organizational meetings per year - one in May or June The "spring"
meeting is especially for the sake of voting for Officers and Trustees for Sunrise Chapel (the incorporated non-profit in the state of Arizona) and for approving the financial budget for the coming fiscal year. We also have a pastor's report and reports from other leaders about various special and ongoing uses and services. As we have done recently, we will hold this meeting during the
luncheon. Everyone, whether a full member, an associate member, a friend, or a newcomer is welcome to attend and participate.
Everyone can provide input and opinions. If you want to be part of official voting, you need to enroll as a member of the church. For information about membership, please contact me or any Board member.

The Prophet Samuel Prays for the People 1 Samuel 12:19-24 The people all said to Samuel, “Pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.” “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all
your heart. Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what
great things he has done for you. The Intimate Connection between Caring and Prayer Apocalypse Explained 325.3-4,11 - Swedenborg Prayers are such as people themselves are in respect to life. In each thing we say, there is desire, and every person, spirit, and angel is her or his own desire, for each one's desire is their life. Therefore, such as the desire is, such is the praying. Spiritual desire is what is called charity towards the neighbor; to be in that desire is true worship. Praying is what proceeds from it. From this it is clear that those who place all worship of the Divine in oral
piety, and not in practical piety, err greatly. Practical piety is to act in every work and in every duty from sincerity and rightness, and from justice and equity, and this because it is commanded by the Lord in the Word. For in this way people look to heaven and to the Lord in every work, and thus they are joined together with Him. Worship of the Divine consists primarily in a life of charity (as defined above) and secondarily in a life of piety. The life of charity is the primary
thing. When we are in a life of charity we are constantly praying, if not with the mouth yet with the heart; for that which is of the love is constantly in the thought, even when we are unconscious of it.
