Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Do you love Me?"

Another intriguing "post-resurrection" Bible story
This Sunday, I'll talk about another of my favorites, when Jesus is sitting with the disciples on the shore eating breakfast. He turns to Peter and basically challenges him to prove his love by DOING something caring - feed My lambs and My
sheep. The internal sense of this story is about how Peter symbolizes our faith and how faith is not complete or mature until it finds fulfillment in some good, loving action. It is a call to show, not just tell... to care outwardly, not just talk about caring.
Holy Supper during the Church Service this
Sunday Our current practice is to gather for the Holy Supper on the first Sunday of every other month toward the end of the hour of worship. So it will be offered on May 7, July 2, September 3, November 5. I'm happy to report that Carol K is taking on the setup and cleanup for Holy Supper since Sue B is retiring from the job after many years of service. A big THANK YOU to
both of you! And to all other volunteers who pitch in and help make the Holy Supper run smoothly.
Lots of good things going on! See below for upcoming activities - like tomorrow, the Arizona Spiritual Growth Foundation Board Meeting at 10 am; and The World Labyrinth Day event at 12:30 pm; and a great church service planned,
including the Holy Supper.
This weekend is also The Tucson Folk Festival Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening - Although it's not a Sunrise Chapel event, look for friends there - it's a good place for music, fun, and fellowship! Sunrise Chapel "Book Fair" See below for more information. Elise Gladish welcomes everyone to check out the books we have available. May 7-21 in Friendship Hall With love and respect, Nathan

World Labyrinth Day - This Saturday - May 6
|
|
Join us tomorrow - Saturday May 6 at 12:30 pm Walking a labyrinth is an opportunity to experience prayer in motion. Saturday, May 6 is a day set aside to promote peace by walking
labyrinths. Last October, a creative and collaborative group of people worked together to bring a simple, beautiful labyrinth to the east side of the Chapel for meditation, prayer, and spiritual growth. It is open to the public during daylight hours. Join us this Saturday, May 6 at 12:30 pm to talk about labyrinths, and to share thoughts and hopes for encouraging peace. At 1 o’clock we will begin walking the labyrinth to join a wave of walkers in many time zones around the globe.

Sunrise Chapel Book Fair - May 7-21
|
|
Sunrise Chapel has a library and books for sale. The book center is the room between Friendship Hall and the Children’s Chapel. The books we sell are all related to New Church thought. Some are the works of Emanuel Swedenborg, and others are written by authors who have an interest in the theology. Come see what we have! This year we are hoping to
get more books into more readers' hands, so we are having a Book Fair. All the books for sale are greatly reduced in price. We have free books as well. Take a look, and pick up some good reads for yourself and your friends!

Who Is Emanuel Swedenborg?
|
|
An intro to Emanuel Swedenborg and his work Monday, May 15 from 6:30-8:00 pm At Sunrise
Chapel Free and open to the public I was approached by someone from another local Chapel not affiliated with our church who is interested in learning more about Swedenborg and his influence. We agreed that Sunrise Chapel would host this introductory event and welcome the
public.
The program will include a short video, several presentations by different people, time for meditation and we'll conclude with an opportunity for people to share closing thoughts.
I encourage everyone to attend, even if you are an expert in Swedenborg. When we invite the
public to an introductory event like this, it helps to have people with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. I think you will find this an interesting combination of presentations and testimonials.

I invite you to try one Worship Team Meeting
|
Wednesday at 9:30-10:30 What is this Worship (Planning) Team? I used to call it my Sermon Team, but it's more than that. We also talk about other aspects of planning worship services such as audio and visual aids, music, ways to include more participation, etc. I welcome anyone to try it out with no term commitment.
It is a collaborative small group experience. It
is a forward-looking, creative brainstorming, and study group. I have found lots of inspiration from such team efforts in the past. I run it as a small group, starting with a brief "check in" and prayer, and finishing with a quick "closing thought."
Don't know the Bible? - no problem! In fact, it helps me to know what non-students of the Bible think of the stories. Often what I find
most helpful are people’s questions and reflections on a topic as it relates to their lives.
We are also studying "The Art of Effective Preaching - A Guide for Those Who Preach and Those Who Listen," by Frank and Jeremy Rose. As the title implies, it's worthwhile to learn about preaching even if your main activity during a sermon is
listening.
Meetings are Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30 am in the pastor's office. Let me know if you have questions and if you’d like to come! ~Nathan

Jesus Questions Peter John 21:14-17 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of
John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep."
The Internal Meaning of
the Conversation Secrets of Heaven 10087 - Swedenborg No one can know what these words signify except by the internal sense, which teaches that the twelve disciples of the Lord represented all things of faith and of love in the complex; and that Peter represented faith, James charity, and John the works or goods of charity.
Secrets of Heaven 3994 "By Peter" here and elsewhere is signified faith. Faith is not faith unless it is from charity toward the neighbor, and thus from love to the Lord. Charity and love are not charity and love unless they are from innocence. When the Lord first asks Peter whether he loves Him, He is asking whether there is love
in the faith; then He says, "Feed My lambs," because lambs symbolize those who are in innocence. And then, after the same question, He says, "Feed My sheep," that is, those who are in charity.
