Welcome all into Spiritual Community
One of our core values is to be intentionally welcoming. The specific phrase in our "values statement" is "Welcome all into spiritual community."

In addition to being welcoming to newcomers, it is just a good thing in general to be genuinely welcoming of EACH OTHER. As a congregation, we are good at this! I love greeting people as they walk up to the building for Sunday church services. I love the welcoming atmosphere in the Chapel. And it warms my heart to see people enjoying each other's company during the luncheons.

AND I think we, (including me), can improve! It's important to be on the lookout for ways to be inclusive. Even with all the technological ways to stay in touch and connected, loneliness and a sense of isolation are big challenges. Church services and activities are important ways to reconnect, not just with God, but with one another.

So, this Sunday I will talk about this value using some stories from the Word about hospitality, a very important feature of Biblical life. And I will encourage us all to work on a task about being aware of the welcome we are projecting to others throughout our normal daily routine.

After the service, during the luncheon, I hope you will join me and others for our Annual Meeting - where we will vote on new members of the Sunrise Chapel Board and we will also vote to approve the budget for the coming fiscal year. See below for more information.

With love and respect,
Nathan

Notice of Annual Meeting - Sunday, June 11 at 12:15 pm
Mary Magdalene in awe

Our By-Laws specify that Sunrise Chapel shall have two organizational meetings per year - one in May or June
The "spring" meeting is especially for the sake of voting for Officers and Trustees for Sunrise Chapel (the incorporated non-profit in the state of Arizona) and for approving the financial budget for the coming fiscal year. We also have a pastor's report and reports from other leaders about various special and ongoing uses and services.
As we have done recently, we will hold this meeting during the luncheon. Everyone, whether a full member, an associate member, a friend, or a newcomer is welcome to attend and participate.
Everyone can provide input and opinions. If you want to be part of official voting, you need to enroll as a member of the church. For information about membership, please contact me or any Board member.

Fiscal Year-End Fundraising
Mary Magdalene in awe
Our church’s fiscal year-end is fast approaching—June 30.
Please consider a gift to help us meet our annual giving goals. Every donation, large or small, will help us continue our mission to help people experience heavenly joy through spiritual growth. This mission is a message of love and hope for all people to turn to the Lord God Jesus Christ in a life of faith, love, and service. Your donation to Sunrise Chapel and to our central office, the General Church, matters and it makes a difference.

You can make an online donation to Sunrise Chapel through the General Church's system at www.newchurch.org/donate. If you write a check, our headquarters’ mailing address is: General Church C/O  Advancement, PO Box 708, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009. Just specify Sunrise Chapel as the recipient of the donation.

Readings for this Sunday

Jesus Extends a Welcome
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Being Welcoming is part of Spiritual Practice
True Christianity 444
When our moral life is also spiritual, it is a life of goodwill, because the practices involved in a moral life and in a life of goodwill are the same.
Goodwill is wishing our neighbors well and therefore treating them well. This is also a moral way of life. The following statement by the Lord is a spiritual law: All things whatever that you want people to do for you, do likewise for them. This is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
