The birthday of our church, Fathers Day, and other news

A Vision of Christianity 2.0
In the Biblical book of Revelation, John describes visions of a new church. In the first century after the Lord's ministry, the Apostle John envisioned a new heaven and a new earth, and in it a new church. Christianity was so new, the earthly organization was just getting started. These visions have fascinated people for two thousand years.

This Sunday let's have a look at the vision of a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet. In the symbolic meaning of this picture, there is something very enlightening about the development of Christianity.

It's also Father's Day! A great day to honor our natural fathers and male role models as well as to show appreciation for "our Father in heaven."

Note: A week from now, next Sunday June 25, Frank Rose will preach for me while I am attending Clergy meetings in Bryn Athyn, PA.

With love and respect,
Nathan

Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Wil Von Mayr

This Sunday, June 18 at 3 pm at Sunrise Chapel

On behalf of Johanna Von Mayr, her family, and Wil’s family, I welcome you to a Celebration of Life for Wil Von Mayr this Sunday, June 18 at 3 pm at Sunrise Chapel, followed by refreshments in Friendship Hall.

Wil’s health had been declining over several months. We’ve missed him in the sound booth for a while! Recently, he was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. He was then transferred from the hospital to hospice care for a short stay where he made his transition to the other world in his sleep early this morning, June 15.

Please join in this opportunity to recognize Wil’s full and active life in this world, spanning 88 years. The service will include time for people to share a brief vignette or reflection. If you can’t attend in person, and you wish to send a note, you can reply to this email or send a separate email to me at nathan@sunrisechapel.org

This will also be a time to rejoice in the promise of Wil’s life continuing to unfold in the spiritual world as he is welcomed by others who have gone before him. As Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.  One who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”  John 11:25,26

With love and best wishes,
Nathan

Report on last Sunday's Annual Meeting - June 11
Mary Magdalene in awe

I think we beat our record for the shortest annual meeting - 35 minutes!
Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in our "spring" meeting - the one where we elect Officers and Members of the Board of Trustees, and also where we approve the annual budget for the coming fiscal year.
Even with a lighter attendance, we met the quorum requirements and conducted the business we needed to accomplish. I'm happy to say that, after a few years with an empty seat, we now have all the positions filled on the Board. Thank you to each person who agreed to serve! In a separate announcement (not shared on Facebook), I will give the names of everyone involved.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or the Chairman, Lex Waddell, anytime.

Fiscal Year-End Fundraising
Mary Magdalene in awe
Our church’s fiscal year-end is fast approaching—June 30.

This mission is a message of love and hope for all people to turn to the Lord God Jesus Christ in a life of faith, love, and service. Your donation to Sunrise Chapel and to our central office, the General Church, matters and it makes a difference.

You can make an online donation to Sunrise Chapel through the General Church's system at www.newchurch.org/donate. Readings for this Sunday

One of the Apostle John's Visions
Revelation 12:1-2
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her
feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor
and in pain to give birth.

The Symbolic Meaning of the Vision
The Apocalypse Revealed 532-534 (parts)
A sign from heaven means a revelation concerning things to come, and a great sign appearing in heaven means a revelation concerning the New Church, for the woman clothed with the sun, as described in this chapter, symbolizes that church. The male child that she bore symbolizes its doctrine. Her being in pain to give birth symbolizes the difficulty of that doctrine's being accepted.
The woman appeared clothed with the sun because the sun symbolizes love and the church is governed by love toward the Lord.
The moon was seen under the woman's feet, which in particular here symbolizes faith.
The crown of twelve stars on the woman's head symbolizes the wisdom and intelligence of the New Church resulting from its concepts of Divine goodness and truth drawn from the Word.
