What makes it so hard to be consistently happy?
|
|
I believe one of our main efforts in this world is to figure out how to be genuinely, consistently happy. We experience a lot of challenges along the way - things that seem to interfere with our noble efforts. And we get a lot of opportunities to try out different ways to be happy, which can give us glimpses of
something more permanent.
Isn't it amazing how much attention there is these days on "the psychology of happiness"? So many studies, publications, seminars, blog posts, videos, etc. Counseling is a thriving industry as people seek various ways to understand how to be happier.
This Sunday we'll explore
this topic with a focus on a few key ideas from the Bible and Swedenborg's spiritual perspective. Children's Talks on the 23rd Psalm Next up in
this series of children's talks about the beloved 23rd Psalm - "My cup runs over." Last Sunday, we explored what it means for the shepherd to "anoint my head with oil".

Concert - Eduardo Costa - November 12 at 2:30 pm Once again we are welcoming the public to Eduardo's awesome live classical guitar concert - here at Sunrise Chapel. Although Eduardo plays regularly at other local venues throughout the year, and he has concerts out of town, Sunrise Chapel is his exclusive venue for Tucson concerts. He is billing this as his best concert ever! Set aside Sunday, November 12 for a wonderful afternoon concert starting at 2:30 pm.
Only 51 Days till The Path to Bethlehem!! Reminder: Our well-loved, annual, outdoor live nativity - the Path to Bethlehem - will be held on the first Saturday of December. That's December 2, 2017.
Less than two months away! Please set aside that date for this very special public event.
WANTED: HOMEMADE COOKIES FOR THE PATH TO BETHLEHEM
In honor of our “Cookie Lady,” Fran Blaesing, we are continuing the tradition of offering homemade goods to everyone who attends this special event. If you want to contribute to this fun service project (either with baked goods or funds towards supplies) talk with Cheri Reynolds.

Small Group Study of Topics from Swedenborg - Mondays at 2 pm

I LOVE THIS WEEKLY GROUP!
We have great discussions and are learning a lot together.
Our resources are video podcasts by two friends, Curtis Childs and Jonathan Rose. These two (and their amazing support team) are producing great programs to spread really helpful information from a Swedenborgian perspective (1) about how to handle life’s ups and downs and (2) about understanding the Bible.
This Monday we'll be viewing another episode from Curtis Childs’ You Tube Channel called
“offTheLeftEye”. In just a few years he has gained over 53 thousand subscribers and over 9 million views, and he has a vibrant online community of people from all over the world tuning in to his excellent broadcasts. They are fast-paced, information-packed, down-to-earth at the same time as being uplifting and “spiritual.” He has so many thought-provoking shows on different topics and of various lengths of time. Currently we are focusing on a few of these episodes.
Join the study and fun! Weekly meetings on Monday at 2 pm at Sunrise Chapel. ~Nathan

Invest in Your Spiritual Wealth
|
|
A Small Group Presentation by Michael Brown Sunday, November 5 from 9:30-10:45 AM in Sunrise Chapel Library We have the means to be spiritually wealthy. Webster's says the original definition of wealth was “well-being.” The Bible and the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg teach us how to increase our spiritual well-being -- spiritual wealth. You will receive
your own copy of “A Guide to Spiritual Wealth.” It will be our guide for a discussion about how we are blessed by the spiritual wealth in our lives.

The Challenge of Experiencing Heavenly Happiness Heaven and Hell (Swedenborg) 395 Hardly anyone nowadays knows what heaven is or what heavenly joy is. People who think about either subject come up with such pedestrian and crude notions that they scarcely amount to anything at all. The reason they do not know about heavenly joy is that people
who think about it at all base their judgments on the external joys of the natural person. They do not know what the inner or spiritual person is, so they do not know what that person’s pleasure and blessedness are. So even if they were told by people involved in spiritual or inner joy what heavenly joy is and how it feels, they would not be able to grasp it. It would have descended into an unfamiliar concept and therefore not into their perception, so it would have become one of those things
that the natural person casts aside.
