Following in the footsteps of our Savior

Published: Fri, 11/24/17

What do the early travels of the Lord teach us?
Our annual Path to Bethlehem is just a week away
Let's use this Sunday to explore the early path of the Lord's life on earth and how it applies to our own path of spiritual life. See below for some quotations for reflection.

Semi-Annual Congregational Meeting this Sunday, Nov. 26
See below for more. This will be a brief educational meeting to fulfill the requirement of our By-Laws, and it will be held during our regular luncheon starting at 12:15. I encourage every member to attend, even if you need to leave early.

Only 1 Week till Our Path to Bethlehem!!
Reminder: Our well-loved, annual, outdoor live nativity - the Path to Bethlehem - will  be held on the first Saturday of December. That's December 2, 2017. Please set aside that date for this very special public event. A wonderful way to welcome the Christmas season.

HOMEMADE COOKIES FOR THE PATH TO BETHLEHEM
Thank you to everyone who has already brought cookies for this event, and to everyone who is planning to bring them!! In honor of our “Cookie Lady,” Fran Blaesing, we are continuing the tradition of offering homemade goods to everyone who attends this special event. If you want to contribute to this fun service project (either with baked goods or funds towards supplies) talk with Cheri Reynolds.

With love and respect,
Nathan

LAST SUNDAY'S FOOD BANK COLLECTION
Thank you all for the donations you brought at our service last Sunday to support those in need through the Southern Arizona Food Bank!  It was also fun to use them as the visual aid for the children's talk.

LAST SUNDAY'S DELICIOUS, DELIGHTFUL FEAST!
What a generous spread of food and frivolity from so many people to make our annual Thanksgiving dinner and social such a heartwarming experience. Thank you to everyone who helped - with set up, food prep, clean up and everything in between!

A Wealth of Fascinating Videos for Discussion - Mondays at 2 pm
Mary Magdalene in awe
NO MEETING (again) THIS MONDAY, November 27

I am taking another short break this week to continue focusing on preparations for the Path to Bethlehem. Stay tuned for the next meeting to take a fascinating look at various spiritual topics. Each video is packed with material for discussion.
Our resources are video podcasts by two friends, Curtis Childs and Jonathan Rose. These two (and their amazing support team) are producing great programs to spread really helpful information from a Swedenborgian perspective (1) about how to handle life’s ups and downs and (2) about understanding the Bible.

Each Monday we view parts of an episode from Curtis Childs’ You Tube Channel called “offTheLeftEye”. We hit pause many times throughout each meeting to share questions and ideas with each other. It's really educational and also just fun.
Each video is fast-paced, information-packed, down-to-earth at the same time as being uplifting and “spiritual.”
Here is Curtis’ home page link: https://www.youtube.com/user/offTheLeftEye/featured
He has so many thought-provoking shows on different topics and of various lengths of time. Currently we are focusing on a few of these episodes.

Join the study and fun!
ALMOST weekly meetings on Monday at 2 pm at Sunrise Chapel. No meeting on November 27.

Readings/lessons for Reflection

A few quotations from the Word about traveling
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy” Psalm 16:11

“Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth, and teach me: For You are the God of my salvation.” Psalm 25:4,5

“Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths. For the law shall go forth from Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” Micah 4:2

“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” John 14:6

The Symbolism of Pathways
Secrets of Heaven #10422
In the Word ‘way’, ‘path’, ‘pathway’, ‘track’, street’, and ‘lane’ all refer to truths and the effect they have in our life. We call something true that lends support to what we love. This is also why in everyday language people use ‘the way to go’ to symbolize what is true. In the next life, people’s character in regard to truth may be recognized from the way or road they go along; for all truth leads to its own love.
