What makes a good friendship?
|

Jesus said "I no longer call you servants... I call you friends." What can we learn about the nature of friendship from Jesus' words and ways of interacting with various people? And what is spiritual about friendship? Come this Sunday morning for an opportunity to explore this
topic together and then enjoy friendship together over a delicious catered luncheon in our own Friendship Hall.
Special HAPPY BIRTHDAY Catered Luncheon this Sunday In celebration of her 95th birthday, Virginia's family is having El Molinito cater our
Sunday lunch! Everyone is invited to the party! Come, enjoy a delicious meal and a lovely social time in her honor.
World Labyrinth Day Activity at Sunrise Chapel Next Saturday, May 5 we will

Planning for Arizona Mountain CampSee below for more information. Recently we had a good meeting to begin
planning our family summer camp to be held in July. We've taken a break from holding a camp for several years, but this year we're going to try a new location. And with the fundraising we've been doing for several years, it's going to be very affordable! Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

Saturday, May 5 at 12:30 pm We invite you to join together at Sunrise Chapel's labyrinth on World Labyrinth Day, Saturday May 5th. The annual World Labyrinth Day is the first Saturday every
May. Sunrise Chapel’s labyrinth was installed in October 2016 just east of the main chapel building under two shady mesquite trees. See: www.sunrisechapel.org It is the most recently installed of several spiritual paths on the property. It is listed as open to the public on the world labyrinth locator, one of about 2 dozen labyrinths in Tucson, AZ. See: https://www.labyrinthlocator.com/ At 12:30 pm on Saturday May 5, Pastor Nathan Gladish will facilitate a time of sharing
in preparation for walking the labyrinth at 1 pm. We will then “Walk as one at 1 o’clock.” You're invited to walk or dance your way through to the center of this special pathway, and return back through it, renewed and refreshed. You will join the intention and energy and wave of many who will be walking labyrinths in their respective time zones all over the world on this day. You will also receive a gift from the labyrinth, a memento of your journey. King David gave this
declaration in the Psalms, "You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy." Psalm 16:11 Nathan

Arizona Mountain Camp July 13-22,
2018
|
|
NEW LOCATION! This July we will hold our summer family camp at the Arizona Elks Youth Camp - 40 miles Northeast of Globe, Arizona Our summer camp facilities this year are managed by the Arizona Elks Lodge to benefit children. We will have the camp to ourselves for the week, so we get to decide the schedule and program. This location is in pine woods
in the Tonto National Forest, northeast of Roosevelt Lake reservoir at an elevation of about 5,600 ft. It has good creature comforts, such as excellent kitchen facilities, bunk houses, full showers, and flush toilets. If you have an RV, you are welcome to use it, or you can tent camp if you prefer. We will be making this camp very affordable, especially for families with children. The main costs will be food and transportation. MAP: From Tucson, the drive to camp is about 3 hours and 15 minutes. Here is a link to a page of maps. http://www.elks4kids.org/campmap.html WEBSITE: http://www.elks4kids.org/camp.html You Tube video: https://youtu.be/LSRQUgVCMhc We have reserved the camp from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 22. You can come up for a portion of that time or enjoy and relax the whole week.
Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda
Waddell has offered to organize meal planning and preparation. Christine Morey has offered to be the Camp Director. The next step is to work on a registration form. Stay tuned!!

Final Sessions in this Series of Small
Groups
|
|
We are winding down this series of small groups featuring our new task card deck. Here's a peak into the tasks that participants in the Spiritual Growth Groups are working on this week Each task is written up on one of the cards in the new deck. You can also find essays about each task on www.choosejoynow.org Wednesday night at 6:30-8:00 pm in the Chapel, led by Frank Rose. Current task for this week is Task #32 - Giving Up Suffering When you notice yourself suffering, see if it is mechanical: 1. Ask yourself what you are seeking to get for your suffering. 2. Notice what the suffering is blocking. 3. Let go
of the suffering and notice the results.
Thursday afternoons at 3:00-4:30 pm in the Chapel, led by me (Nathan). Current task for this week is Task #43 – Learning to Forget Offenses If you think of an ancient wrong, let go, and decide to not mention it again. If someone does something you don’t like this week, let go, and decide not to mention it again. Forgive and forget.
Thursday
evenings at 7:00-8:30 pm Women's Group in homes, led by various women. Contact Elise Gladish for details. The women have completed their current study of tasks from the card deck, and will be switching to the
topic of Friendship for the upcoming meeting on May 3.

Special Financial
Request
|
First, THANK YOU to everyone who gives to the general operating fund! Your generosity helps keep Sunrise Chapel serving. And as we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, please consider giving what you can to help meet our budget goals. Every donation to the general operating fund is needed and
useful.
Last week I mentioned that extra donations to two special funds will e matched until June 30. ALSO, between now and June 30, extra donations to two funds will be MATCHED. Additional
contributions will be DOUBLED! 1. Recently, the Asplundh Foundation awarded us a grant for special projects to enhance our programs and facilities. Part of the agreement is for Sunrise Chapel to raise $1,500 in local
contributions. In turn, the Foundation will award us $9,250! So far, we have received $500. Any amount helps!
2. The Endowment Fund is a new initiative to provide income in perpetuity to sustain the uses of Sunrise Chapel. Since it was launched in December 2017, we have already accumulated $4,000! Additional local contributions
up to $1,000 will be matched until June 30 by a remote donor, bringing the overall total to $6,000.
These are exciting additions to our financial future! If you contribute, just include a memo to our Treasurer, Bill Smith specifying your preference. To donate online through our PayPal feature click on the Donate button above, or go to http://sunrisechapel.org/donate/ To donate by check, the mailing address is Sunrise Chapel, 8421 E Wrightstown Rd., Tucson, AZ 85715.

Readings for this
Sunday's church service

Christ Calls His Disciples Friends John 15:9-17 (NIV) “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is
this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask
in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other."
Symbolic Meaning of the Lord's Words about Friends Apocalypse Explained 409 "Friends" here mean the free, "friends" being contrasted with "servants." That those who receive the Divine truth in doctrine and life from
the Lord are not "servants," but are "friends" or freemen... Something nearly similar was represented by the Hebrew servants who were sent away free in the seventh year and in the year of Jubilee. People are called "freemen" who act from the love of truth and good, thus who act from the Lord, from whom is the love of truth and good. Moreover, "servants" in the Word also mean those who are led by self and the world, and thence by evils and
falsities.
