If God is love, and the Bible is how God communicates, then is it kinda like a love letter?

Jesus' love for His disciples is quite evident in His post-resurrection appearances But many places throughout the Bible don't paint a very loving picture of God. What are we supposed to think about all the confusing parts? And how can we understand the whole Bible better as
the most beautiful, wise, and loving book ever to grace our planet?

Planning for Arizona Mountain Camp See below for more information. Recently we had a good meeting to begin planning our family summer camp to be held
in July. We've taken a break from holding a camp for several years, but this year we're going to try a new location.
Thank you to Tom Waddell for bringing in a detailed map of the location. Check it out in Friendship Hall. Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

NEW LOCATION! This July we will hold our summer family camp at the Arizona Elks Youth Camp - 40 miles Northeast of Globe, Arizona The site is managed by the Arizona Elks Lodge to benefit children. We will have the camp to ourselves for the week, so we get to decide the schedule and program. This location is in pine woods in the Tonto National Forest,
northeast of Roosevelt Lake reservoir at an elevation of about 5,600 ft. It has good creature comforts, such as excellent kitchen facilities, bunk houses, full showers, and flush toilets. If you have an RV, you are welcome to use it, or you can tent camp if you prefer. We will be making this camp very affordable, especially for families with children. The main costs will be food and transportation. MAP: From Tucson, the drive to camp is about 3 hours and 15 minutes. Here is a link to a page of maps. http://www.elks4kids.org/campmap.html WEBSITE: http://www.elks4kids.org/camp.html You Tube video: https://youtu.be/LSRQUgVCMhc We have reserved the camp from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 22. You can come up for a portion of that time or enjoy and relax the whole week.
Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda
Waddell has offered to organize meal planning and preparation.

What are the current small groups working
on?
|
|
Here's a peak into the tasks that participants in the Spiritual Growth Groups are working on this week Each task is written up on one of the cards in the new deck. You can also find essays about each task on www.choosejoynow.org Wednesday nights at 6:30-8:00 pm in the Chapel, led by Frank Rose.
Current task for this week is #31 - Reducing Gossip When you are about to say something about a person who is not there: 1. Observe the lower self and the delight it gets in gossip. 2. Go over your critical thoughts and apply them to yourself. 3. Raise your consciousness to a higher level to feel love for the person. 4. Decide what to say or whether to speak at all. 5. Remember to say of another only what you are willing for that person to
hear.
Thursday afternoons at 3:00-4:30 pm in the Chapel, led by me (Nathan).
Current task for this week is #26 – Speaking the Truth with
Love When you are about to say something about someone else, ask yourself: 1. Is what I am about to say true? 2. Is what I am about to say loving?
If it is not loving, it is not
true.
Thursday evenings at 7:00-8:30 pm Women's Group in homes, led by various women. Contact Elise Gladish for details.
Current task for this
week is #8 - Living in the Present Whenever you feel regret or anxiety, observe any connection with the past or future. Let go and bring yourself into an awareness of something positive in the here and now.
Join one of these small groups to support your spiritual growth and a sense of community with other interested folks.

Special Financial
Request
|
First, THANK YOU to everyone who gives to the general operating fund! Your generosity helps keep Sunrise Chapel serving. And as we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, please consider giving what you can to help meet our budget goals. Every donation to the general operating fund is needed and
useful.
Last week I mentioned that extra donations to two special funds will e matched until June 30. ALSO, between now and June 30, extra donations to two funds will be MATCHED. Additional
contributions will be DOUBLED! 1. Recently, the Asplundh Foundation awarded us a grant for special projects to enhance our programs and facilities. Part of the agreement is for Sunrise Chapel to raise $1,500 in local
contributions. In turn, the Foundation will award us $9,250! So far, we have received $500. Any amount helps!
2. The Endowment Fund is a new initiative to provide income in perpetuity to sustain the uses of Sunrise Chapel. Since it was launched in December 2017, we have already accumulated $4,000! Additional local contributions
up to $1,000 will be matched until June 30 by a remote donor, bringing the overall total to $6,000.
These are exciting additions to our financial future! If you contribute, just include a memo to our Treasurer, Bill Smith specifying your preference. To donate online through our PayPal feature click on the Donate button above, or go to http://sunrisechapel.org/donate/ To donate by check, the mailing address is Sunrise Chapel, 8421 E Wrightstown Rd., Tucson, AZ 85715.

Readings for this
Sunday's church service
|
The Lord Sends Out His Disciples Matthew 28:16-20 (NIV) Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The Value of Reading the Bible with Openness and Simplicity Secrets of Heaven 1767 Some people love the Lord’s Word and live a kind and charitable life. Others believe what it says in a simple-hearted way, without making assumptions that undermine the religious truth of its inner meaning. When the Word is read by either kind of person, it is displayed by the Lord before angels’ eyes with tremendous beauty and charm, accompanied by visual representations and adapted with
inexpressible variety to every phase they are then passing through. The beauty and charm are so great that every single facet is perceived as alive. This vital energy is the life that lies within the Word and that gave birth to the Word when it was sent down from heaven. For this reason, the Lord’s Word by its very nature conceals spiritual and heavenly messages within, no matter how unpolished it seems in the letter. These inner messages lie open to the view of good spirits and of angels when
people on earth read the Word.
