What Really Matters is Sometimes Hidden This Sunday I have the privilege of sharing the chancel with a friend and mentor. It was just a couple days ago that I got a call saying Jeremy Rose would be visiting his parents, Frank and Louise Rose, and he offered to preach! With a PhD in
Communications and a lot of experience in sharing the message of the New Church in summer camps, spiritual growth groups, essays, and lay-led worship services, he is a wonderful speaker with an intriguing style. As an active lay person in the Virginia Street Swedenborgian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, he preaches sermons several times a year. He is co-author with his father of the book, “The Art of Effective Preaching: A guide for those who preach and those who
listen”.
Congratulations on Meeting the Endowment Fund Match! Last Sunday, we received two donations towards the match for our fledgling endowment fund, which took us to our goal! We have raised
$1,000 since January 1, 2018, so a remote donor has now added another $1,000. Our total so far since the fund was started in December, 2017 is now $4,000. Congratulations on a great start!
Final Notice: Annual Church Meeting - This Sunday, June 10 at 12:15 pm If you are an official member of Sunrise Chapel, please consider helping us meet our quorum for this meeting, even if you don't stay the whole time.
Per our By-laws, which require us to hold an annual business meeting in May or June, we will convene said meeting after church, during our luncheon, this Sunday, June 10. As usual, I
will do my best to keep the meeting relevant, useful, informative, and brief (about an hour). This is the meeting when we have elections for Officers and Trustees. We also hear a financial report and a Pastor's report. Guest Speaker! Mark Wyncoll, the Manager of Giving Operations for
our global church, is here in town to get to know us. He can help us learn about options for setting up planned gifts for Sunrise Chapel. I have invited him to talk about his work briefly at the Annual Meeting and how he can help Sunrise Chapel specifically.
Next Sunday, June 17 - Welcome Guest Pastor/Preacher Frank Rose Please welcome Pastor Emeritus Frank Rose who will lead the Sunday worship service while Elise and I are celebrating our son's wedding over the weekend. More information to come.
Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

Update on Arizona Mountain Camp July 13-22,
2018
|
THEME: "Choosing Joy in the Forest!" The first weekend of our Arizona Mountain Camp this year will be "traditional" in terms of activities we have enjoyed in previous years - worshiping together, crafts, small groups, etc. Since we are featuring the new "card deck" of 52 spiritual growth task cards, I am proposing that we have an overall theme of "Choosing Joy." And here are suggested daily themes, each of which will relate to one spiritual growth task per day: Friday, July 13: In The Woods Saturday, July 14: The Wildlife Sunday, July 15: The Mountains Monday, July 16: The Trails
If you want a more relaxed, more informal, and reflective experience come up anytime Monday afternoon, July 16 through Sunday afternoon, July 22. This will be a time for anyone, especially parents and grandparents with young children, to enjoy community with activities planned as the spirit moves people.
Location: The camp is about 150 miles from Sunrise Chapel, about 45 miles north of Globe. Workman's Creek is part of the watershed that empties into the Salt River Valley below and then forms
Roosevelt Lake. The road that ascends from the Salt River in the valley to the campground reminds me of going up Mt. Lemmon before there were any guardrails. Beautiful vistas. The final mile to the camp is on a lightly maintained dirt road (approximately 1 mile). Map: From Sunrise Chapel, the drive to camp is at least 3
hours and 15 minutes depending on the condition of the roads. Here is a link to a page of maps. http://www.elks4kids.org/campmap.html Elks Lodge information: http://www.elks4kids.org/camp.html You Tube video: https://youtu.be/LSRQUgVCMhc We have reserved the camp from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 22. Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda Waddell has offered to organize meal planning and preparation. Christine Morey has offered to be the Camp Director. The registration form is being completed. Stay
tuned!! Nathan

Another weekly UPDATE
on Special Financial Request See RED notes below for current data

Congratulations to everyone for helping us make our current goal for the Endowment Fund! Last Sunday we received two donations that sealed the matching deal, and our remote donor has now sent his match! We raised $1,000 and he matched it with $1,000. Now we have a new total of $4,000 in
this special fund. All money in this Endowment Fund will be held for growth for several years, and we will continue to seek funds to enlarge it. If we had done this 30 years ago when the Chapel was first built, we would certainly be in a better financial position now. Thank you for helping Sunrise Chapel look to its future.
Once again, THANK YOU to everyone who gives to the general operating fund! Your generosity helps keep Sunrise Chapel serving week to week and day to day. And as we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, please consider giving what you can to help
meet our budget goals. Every donation to the general operating fund is needed and useful. Thank you, also, to those who have contributed extra to our two current matching opportunities.
If you have been waiting and wondering how this will play out, I encourage you to contribute in the next couple of weeks! Our deadline is June 30.
Still needed - Recently, the Asplundh Foundation awarded us a grant for special projects
to enhance our programs and facilities. Part of the agreement is for Sunrise Chapel to raise $1,500 in local contributions. In turn, the Foundation will award us $9,250! So far we have received a total of $1,013. We just need $487 left to raise. Any amount helps!
These are exciting additions to our financial future! Donations can be made to "Sunrise Chapel." Just include a memo to our Treasurer, Bill Smith, specifying your preference. To donate online through our PayPal feature click on the Donate button above, or go
to http://sunrisechapel.org/donate/ To donate by check, the mailing address is Sunrise Chapel, 8421 E
Wrightstown Rd., Tucson, AZ 85715.

Readings for this
Sunday's church service

A Man, a Donkey, and an Angel Numbers 22:21-31 (parts) Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the Moabite officials. But... the angel of the Lord stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey... When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, it turned off the road
into a field. Balaam beat it to get it back on the road. Then the angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path through the vineyards, with walls on both sides. When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam’s foot against it. So he beat the donkey again. Then the angel of the Lord moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left. When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it lay down under
Balaam, and he was angry and beat it with his staff. Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.” The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?” “No,” he said. Then the Lord opened
Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.
Jesus Dines at the home of Martha and Mary Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to
him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from
her.”
The Blessing of Being Useful
Charity, The Practice of Neighborliness §158 Swedenborg Looking to the Lord and avoiding evils as sins, people who do the work of their office or
employment sincerely, justly, and faithfully become embodiments of charity. The human being is born to become charity. To become charity, a person must do the good of use constantly from affection and with pleasure. When people do the work of their office or employment sincerely, justly, and faithfully from affection and the accompanying enjoyment, they are constantly in the good of use, not only toward the community or the public but also toward individuals or private
citizens.
