Guest Pastor - "The Lord's Prayer"
|
|
First in a series on The Lord's Prayer This Sunday Pastor Emeritus, Frank Rose, will lead the service while Elise and I are celebrating our son's wedding! In fact, while I am traveling this summer for several reasons, Frank will lead five services, and each time he
will take up another aspect of The Lord's Prayer. Here is his schedule and the topics: June 17 - The Lord’s Prayer July 1 - Our Daily Bread July 8 - Forgive us July 15 - Deliver us August 19 - Praise God
Selecting a New Executive Bishop for our Church Starting on Tuesday June 26, the Council of the Clergy for our global church organization will meet in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania for annual professional meetings. One of the key items of business is to elect a new Executive Bishop who will take office in July 2019. Assuming someone is elected by the Clergy and then affirmed by the Board of Directors, that
minister will train for the position until the current Executive Bishop, Brian Keith, retires (in June 2019). I will be one of about 100 other ministers who will participate in this selection process. Six candidates were nominated earlier in the year, each of whom has written and shared a personal "vision" statement about the job and/or the future of the church. You can read their vision
statements on www.newchurch.org. Either go to the home page and look for the button "Bishop Selection Information" or go directly to this link: https://newchurch.org/home-engrave/bishop-selection-information/ These are the names (in alphabetical order) of the candidates: Erik Buss
Peter Buss, Jr. Glenn "Mac" Frazier Bradley Heinrichs David Lindrooth Derrick Lumsden Ministers in our denomination will come to these meetings from many countries throughout the world. Four whole-group sessions are scheduled over three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) dedicated to the selection process, and a fifth session is scheduled for a
follow-up interview with the selected nominee. The nomination will then go to the General Church Board of Directors' meeting for their consideration. I have talked with a number of Sunrise Chapel folks about this process, and I would love to hear from more of you. Just contact me anytime prior to the meetings either in person, by phone, or write me a note. I'd love to hear what you think.
Follow-up from our Annual Church Meeting - Last Sunday, June 10 Thank you to everyone who attended and participated! I’m especially happy that many of you got to meet our special guest, Mark Wyncoll, the Manager
of Planned Giving for our global church. He works in our church headquarters in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, and it was a privilege to host him here so he could introduce himself and talk briefly about his role and how he can help Sunrise Chapel. He left some information about options regarding setting up planned gifts. If interested, ask our treasurer, Bill Smith, who can share it with you. Or contact Mark directly

Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

Update on Arizona Mountain Camp July 13-22,
2018
|
Registration Form: The registration form is now available at the church (in the lobby) and on Sunrise Chapel.org.
THEME: "Choosing Joy in the Forest!" The first weekend of our Arizona Mountain Camp this year will be "traditional" in terms of activities we have enjoyed in
previous years - worshiping together, crafts, small groups, etc. Since we are featuring the new "card deck" of 52 spiritual growth task cards, I am proposing that we have an overall theme of "Choosing Joy." And here are suggested daily themes, each of which will relate to one spiritual growth task per day: Friday, July 13: In The Woods Saturday, July 14: The Wildlife Sunday, July 15: The Mountains Monday, July 16: The
Trails
If you want a more relaxed, more informal, and reflective experience come up anytime Monday afternoon, July 16 through Sunday
afternoon, July 22. This will be a time for anyone, especially parents and grandparents with young children, to enjoy community with activities planned as the spirit moves people. Location: The camp is about 150 miles from Sunrise Chapel, about 45 miles north of Globe. Workman's Creek is part of the watershed that empties into the Salt River Valley below and then forms Roosevelt Lake. The road that ascends from the Salt River in the valley to the campground reminds me of going up Mt. Lemmon before there were any guardrails. Beautiful vistas. The final mile to the camp is on a lightly maintained dirt road (approximately 1 mile). Map: From Sunrise Chapel, the drive to camp is at least 3 hours and 15 minutes depending on the condition of the roads. Here is a link to a page of maps. http://www.elks4kids.org/campmap.html Elks Lodge information: http://www.elks4kids.org/camp.html You Tube video: https://youtu.be/LSRQUgVCMhc We have reserved the camp from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 22. Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda Waddell has offered to organize meal planning and preparation. Christine Morey has offered to be the Camp Director.
The registration form is being completed. Stay tuned!! Nathan

More Congratulations on
Matching Fund Goals!
|
|
We met one matching goal, and we are very close to meeting the other! #1 Congratulations to everyone for helping us build our new Endowment Fund! Two Sundays ago we met our current matching goal of $1,000, and our remote donor doubled that! Now we have a new total of $6,000 in this special fund. All of
this will be invested for growth for several years, and we will continue to seek donations to the fund. Thank you for helping Sunrise Chapel look to its future. #2 For the current Asplundh Foundation Fund match, last Sunday we received two checks that totaled $350, so now all we have left to raise is $137 (by June 30). Thank you for your generosity and support. Please consider donating to this important
cause.
If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel. Please note which fund you are contributing towards. Or you could use Pay Pal to make a one-time or monthly donation. Go to www.sunrisechapel.org and click on the Give tab.

Readings for this
Sunday's church service

Psalm 145:1-3 A psalm of praise. Of David. I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no
one can fathom.
Jesus Teaches about Prayer Matthew 6:5-15 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father,
who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our
debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
Secrets of Heaven
§1733 Swedenborg Anything comparatively deep inside us is called heaven, and anything on the surface is called the earth. The reason heaven symbolizes what lies relatively deep inside us is that our deeper levels are an image of heaven and therefore are a kind of miniature heaven.
