The Lord's Prayer #4 - Deliver Us From Evil This will be the third Sunday in a row that our Pastor Emeritus, Frank Rose, is preaching for me. He will continue his series of sermons on The Lord's Prayer while I am traveling for Arizona Mountain Camp. I will be back in the saddle next Sunday, and I'm
getting excited about a variety of interesting topics to share with you. Here are some of the topics I'm thinking about covering (in no particular order yet): Hiding Whispering Ordinary Life The Fear of Scarcity Wholeheartedness The Word has a lot to say about
each of these topics, and they are all very down-to-earth, too. I hope you can join me in exploring them in relation to our spiritual lives and our efforts to experience heavenly joy in the here-and-now.
Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

I like to think and rethink about how to capture and convey the main, key message of our church Here is my latest iteration:
Partnering with the Lord and each other
in cultivating spiritual growth
and experiencing heavenly
joy One of the key additions to my previous iterations is the idea of a "partnership with the Lord and each other." The Bible and the teachings of the New Church are all about that. And I love the sense of working together - collaborating with the Lord and each other
- in an ongoing effort to build a community based on the joys of growing spiritually.
What do you think? Nathan

When you read this, campers will be on their journey to our new location for Arizona Mountain Camp.
We are experimenting with this new location, more remote than before. About 25-30 people are expected as our daily count, with different folks coming and going at various times over the weekend and throughout the next week.
There is NO CELL PHONE SERVICE at the camp location and the use of the land line is limited to emergencies. If you have an emergency and need to contact someone at the camp, call Frank
Rose's home phone (leave a message if necessary) 520-721-1091.
THEME: "Choosing Joy in the Forest!" The first weekend of our Arizona Mountain Camp this year will be "traditional" in terms of activities we have enjoyed in previous years - worshiping together, crafts, small groups, etc. Since we are featuring the new "card deck" of 52 spiritual growth task cards, I am proposing that we have an overall theme of "Choosing Joy." And here are suggested daily themes, each of which will relate to
one spiritual growth task per day: Friday, July 13: In The Woods Saturday, July 14: The Wildlife Sunday, July 15: The Mountains Monday, July 16: The Trails
If you want a more relaxed, more informal, and reflective experience come up anytime Monday afternoon, July 16 through Sunday afternoon, July 22. This will be a time for anyone, especially parents and grandparents with young children, to enjoy community with activities planned as the spirit moves people. Location: The camp is about 150 miles from Sunrise Chapel, about 45 miles north of Globe. Workman's Creek is part of the watershed
that empties into the Salt River Valley below and then forms Roosevelt Lake. The road that ascends from the Salt River in the valley to the campground reminds me of going up Mt. Lemmon before there were any guardrails. Beautiful vistas. The final mile to the camp is on a lightly maintained dirt road
(approximately 1 mile). Map:
From Sunrise Chapel, the drive to camp is at least 3 hours and 15 minutes depending on the condition of the roads. Here is a link to a page of maps. http://www.elks4kids.org/campmap.html Elks Lodge
information: http://www.elks4kids.org/camp.html You Tube video: https://youtu.be/LSRQUgVCMhc We have reserved the camp from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 22. Linda Waddell is in charge of meal planning and preparation. Christine Morey is the Camp Director. I am the Camp Pastor. Nathan

Let's Study the
Bible More
|
|
I love this picture of curiosity and fascination as these kids crowd around a book. Sure, it's staged for the photograph, but isn't it great when we have that innocent wonder about something we are reading, especially when that book has such depth and breadth of meaning
because it has a divine source?
As I think about planning the calendar of church activities for the coming year (our "church year" started July 1), I plan to offer more opportunities for group Bible study. There are many ways of doing this, and what we settle on will depend on the interests of the group (or groups). Let me know if you are interested and what times of the week and day you prefer. ~Nathan

Planning for a BIG
fundraiser in February
|
|
Something is brewing for FUN and for FUNDRAISING February seems like a long way off when we are just beginning to enjoy the
monsoon season, but summer is the right time to start planning a new kind of fundraiser.
The idea is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience would bid on. This kind of event is not only fun, but it can also be morale-boosting as we work
together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel. Come to a planning meeting on Sunday, July 29 after church at 12:30 pm. It will take a team effort to pull it off. The plan is to do a lot of preparation in the next couple of months since people get really busy in November and December;
then pick up momentum again in January. We haven’t settled on a date yet; let’s consider that as a part of our overall calendar planning. ~Nathan
Thank
you for your dedication and support throughout the year. Summertime is typically a time of lower attendance at church activities, which is reflected in decreased donations. Consider setting up a regular, automatic donation to the Chapel's general operating budget.
If you write a check, make it to
Sunrise Chapel. Or you could use Pay Pal to make a one-time or monthly donation. Go to www.sunrisechapel.org and click on the Give tab.

Readings for
this Sunday's church service

Psalm 18:1-3,16,17 I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord, who is worthy
of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. . . He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support.
Luke 22:39-46 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into
temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from
sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Secrets of Heaven §5134 The earthly level is also delivered from evil when it is regenerated through neighborly love and faith, because the
evil is then detached and removed. It is cast from the center, where it used to be, out to the edges, where the light of truth radiating from goodness does not reach. In human beings, evil is detached in this way but still held on to, because it cannot be entirely erased. In the Lord, though, who made the earthly level in himself divine, evil and falsity were totally cast out and erased.
