The Ins and Outs of Hiding Thank you so much to our Pastor Emeritus, Frank Rose, for preaching the last three Sundays! I am back from my travels now, and I'll be on chancel this Sunday. After a little time off, I'm getting excited about a variety of interesting topics to share with you. This Sunday
let's explore what the Lord teaches about the benefits and the costs of hiding - spiritually speaking. It's amazing how many stories there are in the Word about hiding and coming out of hiding... a very common human experience with layers of significance.
Some other topics I'm thinking about covering (in no particular order yet): Whispering Ordinary Life The Fear of Scarcity
Wholeheartedness The Word has a lot to say about each of these topics, and they are all very down-to-earth, too. I hope you can join me in exploring them in relation to our spiritual lives and our efforts to experience heavenly joy in the here-and-now.
Calendar Planning Meeting #1 - This Sunday after
lunch After our luncheon this Sunday, Elise and I invite anyone to participate in our annual meetings to plan various events, groups & activities. Knowing that some folks are out of town, this will be the first meeting. We would love your ideas on things to include - "regular" things as well as "creative, new" options!
Thinking of
you all with love and respect, Nathan

SUCCESS! Arizona Mountain Camp
|
|
What a delightful and rich experience it was! Notice these happy faces
under a wet umbrella. Yes, we had GREAT monsoons every day, as well as plenty of sunshine. Thank you to everyone who braved the distance and the roads to join the fun, the community, and the learning.
Thank you, especially, to our Camp Director, Christine Morey, and our Kitchen Director, Linda Waddell. These two ladies did SO MUCH to make the camp run smoothly. Words are inadequate. We are all very,
very grateful!
Everyone who made the trek said the roads were good and the camp facilities were great. They liked the amenities - clean cabins and comfortable bunk beds, flush toilets, plenty of water, a very nice common area, wonderful food (continuous salad bar!), lots of games and activities. Our Camp
Hosts were very helpful and kind. We welcomed Lynn and Petie to our meals and various activities, and they loved us.
Thank you also to our guitarists, Victor Odhner and Pablo Gonzalez, for blessing us with their musical accompaniment.
Many photos have been shared on Facebook, and photos will be uploaded to the Sunrise Chapel website as soon as I can do that.

Let's Study the
Bible More
|
|
At Arizona Mountain Camp this year, we had some really great small group opportunities for sharing and study and application to life. We discussed four spiritual growth tasks and saw how the Bible addresses them in fascinating ways. I'm excited about gathering with others
throughout this coming year to really tap into the wisdom and love the Lord shares throughout His multifaceted revelation.
As I think about planning the calendar of church activities for the coming year (our "church year" started July
1), I plan to offer more opportunities for group Bible study. There are many ways of doing this, and what we settle on will depend on the interests of the group (or groups).
I have already gotten replies from some folks who are interested. Let me know if you are curious about studying the Bible in a group and what times of the week and day you prefer. ~Nathan

Planning for a BIG
fundraiser in February
|
|
Something is brewing for FUN and for FUNDRAISING February seems like a long way off when we are just beginning to enjoy the
monsoon season, but summer is the right time to start planning a new kind of fundraiser. The idea is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience would bid on. This kind of event is not only fun, but it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise
Chapel. Come to a planning meeting on Sunday, July 29 after church at 12:30 pm. It will take a team effort to pull it
off. The plan is to do a lot of preparation in the next couple of months since people get really busy in November and December; then pick up momentum again in January. We haven’t settled on a
date yet; let’s consider that as a part of our overall calendar planning. ~Nathan
Thank you for your dedication and support throughout the
year. Summertime is typically a time of lower attendance at church activities, which is reflected in decreased donations. Consider setting up a regular, automatic donation to the Chapel's general operating budget.
If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel. Or you could use Pay Pal
to make a one-time or monthly donation. Go to www.sunrisechapel.org and click on the Give tab.

Readings for
this Sunday's church service

Psalm 139:1-18 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is
too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around
me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the
days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.
John 7:1-11 After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go
about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him. Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you
any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee. However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus and asking, “Where is he?”
Secrets of Heaven 10,579 In the Psalms, David says, “O Jehovah, do not hide Your face from me.” Psalms 102:2. Jehovah, that is, the Lord, never turns His face away from a person, but anyone ruled by evil faces away from the Lord. When anyone does so, the Divine is behind the back and the appearance is that the Divine hides Himself or turns Himself away. The reality is that all
hellish spirits turn their back to the Lord as the Sun, but angels always turn their face towards Him. As to their spirit, people behave in the same way while they live in the world.
