Frank Rose will lead this Sunday's church service This will be Frank's 5th and final talk in his recent series on The Lord's Prayer. I am very appreciative of his willingness and ability to help while I am away. I only wish I could be in two places at once so that I could enjoy it with you all!
Some financial good news If it seems that our little church organization is working from a very lean budget, it's true. But at our Board meeting last week, when we were going over some historical figures for rental income in the past year, it suddenly occurred to one astute board member that we were low in one income account that has otherwise been very reliable over a decade
or more. Turns out that this vendor had a change in their bookkeeping, and some of their clients were mistakenly overlooked. So we are looking forward to recouping that "lost" income very soon. It comes at a very good time, since the middle of the summer is often a period of lower donations. All in Divine Providence!
Children's Talk Series on Children in the Bible I'm excited about the series of talks that Frank Rose and I are doing this summer for the children in the Sunday church services. There are many stories in the Bible about children or involving children. Here is a list of ten with more to come after this! 1. Miriam – June 17 (FSR) 2. The Widow's Son (and the oil) – June 24 (NDG) 3. The boy’s part in feeding the 5000 – July 1 (FSR) 4. Josiah
restores worship of the Lord – July 8 (FSR) 5. David – July 15 (FSR) 6. Jesus as a 12-year-old – July 22 (NDG) 7. Jesus invites a little child into the midst – Aug 5 (NDG) 8. Samuel (hearing the Lord and talking with Eli) – Aug 12 (NDG) 9. Jairus’ daughter is revived – August 18 (FSR) 10. Joseph and the coat of many
colors – August 26 (NDG)
Speaking of Children - TEEN TIME!! Most Friday afternoons from about 5:30-6:00 pm at the church (but not this Friday Aug 17) Casual. Thoughtful. Fun.
Contact Rachael Casto or me if interested.
Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

Results of surgery last Friday, Aug. 17

Amazing! Just 6 days post-op, and I'm typing with all ten fingers! Can you spell R-E-L-I-E-F? One metal plate and 10 screws in place, and I'm good to go for recovery. The radius was fractured in 5 places. My next MD's appointment is next Friday to get the stitches out and start wound care. Meanwhile I just have to wear this
bandage and a wrist brace for added protection. The mending is on its way! Praise the Lord! And thank you to everyone for you prayers, concern, support, emails, texts, cards, and especially your love. Nathan

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
We've booked La Mariposa (at a discounted rate) for a dinner + dancing + auction fundraising event! NEW INFO: The main thing to report today is that last Sunday our Board had a robust
discussion of the event, with lots of support expressed for moving forward.
Also, ANYONE can solicit donations from businesses. It is helpful to take a copy of the “official” letter from the Pastor with you, and leave it with the appropriate person at the place of business. Copies of the letter and envelopes are on a table in the Chapel front lobby.
The idea of this gala is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on. This kind of event is not only fun, but it can also be
morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel. It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off. The plan is to do a lot of preparation in the next couple of months since people get really busy in November and December; then pick up momentum again in January. Put a big star on Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna be great!

Who will study the
Bible with me?
|
|
Once I get this broken wrist distraction out of the way, I will offer more opportunities for group Bible study. There are many ways of doing this, and what we settle on will depend on the interests of the group (or
groups).
I have already gotten replies from a few folks who are interested. Let me know if you are curious about studying the Bible in a group and what times of the week and day you prefer.

Sunrise Chapel Needs Summertime Donations
|
|
Please consider Sunrise Chapel in your charitable giving this month. Your dedication and support throughout the year is
invaluable. However, with folks going and coming on vacations, summertime is typically a time of lower attendance at church activities, which is often reflected in decreased donations. Have you considered setting up a regular, automatic donation to the Chapel's general operating
budget?
The PayPal button here as an option for one-time or monthly donation. If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.
Thank you from our Treasurer, Bill Smith

Readings for
this Sunday's church service

Daniel 4:29-34 [A]s the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal
authority has been taken from you. You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.” Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the
feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird. At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
John 18:33 Pilate then went back inside the
palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” . . . Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
True Christianity §416 People who love the Lord's kingdom not only love the Lord above all else; they also love their neighbor as themselves. Love for the Lord is a universal love. It affects every aspect of spiritual life and also every aspect of earthly life. This is because love for the Lord dwells in the highest reaches of us, and things at the top flow into things lower down and bring them to
life in the same way that our will flows into all our intentions and actions, and our intellect flows into all our thoughts and conversations.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
