What do you value about a healthy partnership? Partnerships come in all varieties. People can be business partners, married partners, or dance partners. Partnership involves lots of communicating, cooperating, collaborating. In "church language," community and communion are words involving partnership with one
another and with the Lord. See below for an awesome quotation from True Christianity about partnership with God. This Sunday, I am eager to share with you some thoughts I've been reflecting on about the theological and practical aspects of partnership with the each other and with the Lord. I believe this is very much behind our purpose as a group of spiritually-minded people. It's important for us to be partners in two key things: (1) cultivating spiritual growth and (2) choosing heavenly joy. Each of these is also expressed beautifully in the practice of Holy Supper or Communion, which will be offered after the sermon. I hope you can come and participate! Holy Supper - Sunday, September 2 Everyone is invited and welcome to participate in the sacrament of the Lord's Holy Supper toward the end of the church service this Sunday, September 2.
Planning Meeting for "Artists & Authors" event We have a number of artists and authors "in residence" who are eager to share their work with us and the public. Anyone interested in planning such an event is welcome to this planning meeting this Sunday at 12:45 in the library.
We have some tentative dates in mind, but we need to firm them up and do other planning.
More progress on the Big Benefit Fundraiser in FebruaryWell, how about that!? "Ask and you will receive." Last week I asked if someone would like to talk to someone at Gaslight Theater, and this week someone donated two Gaslight Theater tickets to our auction! Someone also donated a beautiful piece of heirloom jewelry. Anyone can solicit donations from local businesses! (It would be useful to get a bit organized so we don't have several people going to the same business.) Raise your hand if you are willing to talk to someone at Tanque Verde Guest
Ranch? Wouldn't it be awesome to have an overnight stay plus a meal in that beautiful, historic setting? Or what about a set of tires from a local tire company? Or an annual family membership to the world-famous Desert Museum? It doesn't hurt to ask!
Children's Talk Series on Children in the Bible I'm excited about the series of
talks that Frank Rose and I are doing this summer for the children in the Sunday church services. There are many stories in the Bible about children or involving children. Here is a list of the ones we have covered! 1. Miriam – June 17 (FSR) 2. The Widow's Son (and the oil) – June 24 (NDG) 3. The boy’s part in feeding the 5000 – July 1 (FSR) 4. Josiah restores worship of the Lord – July 8 (FSR) 5. David – July 15
(FSR) 6. Jesus as a 12-year-old – July 22 (NDG) 7. Jesus invites a little child into the midst – Aug 5 (NDG) 8. Samuel (hearing the Lord and talking with Eli) – Aug 12 (NDG) 9. Jairus’ daughter is revived – August 18 (FSR) 10. Joseph and the coat of many colors – August 26 (NDG) 11. A Servant Girl Helps a Powerful Commander - Sept 2 (NDG)
Speaking of Children - TEEN TIME!! Most Friday afternoons from about 5:30-6:00 pm at the church Casual. Thoughtful. Fun. Contact Rachael Casto or me if interested. Thinking of you all with love and respect,

Service Project - Helping The Tucson Wildlife Center

GIVING OF OURSELVES TO OUR COMMUNITY "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’" Acts 20:35 (NIV)
Our
“Serve More People Team” has met several times discussing ways we and our church can serve others not only in our church, but also in our community. What better way to empower ourselves and show our love than to reach out to one of our neighbors, The Tucson Wildlife Center.
The Tucson Wildlife Center, located at almost the farthest East you can go on Speedway, is dedicated to the rescue, emergency medical care, and
rehabilitation of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife before return to the wild, while promoting education, habitat protection and peaceful coexistence with wildlife. They are Southern Arizona’s only state-of-the-art wildlife hospital running 24/7, 365 days a year, taking in nearly 3,500 animals a year, with operating costs approaching $1,000 a day for the medical treatment, care, feeding, and rehabilitation of native wildlife before they are ready to be returned to the
wild.
There are many ways to help them through monetary donations, buying a "Dedication Brick", leaving a legacy, volunteering, etc. However, our church is doing something a little unique...
For the next 6 weeks, we are throwing a “shower” to help provide ongoing needed supplies from their “Wish List”. These wish lists can be found in the church lobby... You can pick up an item on
your next trip(s) to the grocery store. Pick up as much as you can of whatever you can and bring your items each week to church, depositing them in the boxes provided in the lobby.
If you have any questions, please contact Darleen Raulerson

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa Activity: Dinner + Dancing + Auction fundraising
event! NEW INFO: Last Sunday evening, Gail B, Claudia O, and Sammie A met with the owners of La Mariposa to talk about meal planning and invitations. Thank you to this team for putting your energy and thought into these parts of the program
Also, Gail wants everyone to know that she is really counting on
others to participate in soliciting donations from businesses. ANYONE CAN DO IT! The more donations, the more fun, and the more potential for funds!
It is helpful to take a copy of the “official” letter from the Pastor with you, and leave it with the appropriate person at the place of business. Copies of the letter and envelopes are on a table in the Chapel front
lobby.
The idea of this gala is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on.
This kind of event is not only fun, but it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel. It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off. The plan is to do a lot of preparation in the next couple of months since people get really busy in November and December; then pick up momentum again in January. Put a big star on Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night"
or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna be great! ~Nathan

Scheduling a Bible
Study?
|

I am eager to get started with a group for Bible study. Those of you who mentioned your interest - please let me know what times work for you. We just need to coordinate a launch day and time. Here are a few options: Wednesdays at 9:30 am? One vote for this time slot. Any others? Wednesdays at 3:30 pm? Thursday nights at 7 pm? There are many ways of studying together, and what we settle on will depend on the interests of the group.

Sunrise Chapel Needs Summertime Donations
|
|
Please consider Sunrise Chapel in your charitable giving this month. Your dedication and support throughout the year is
invaluable. However, with folks going and coming on vacations, summertime is typically a time of lower attendance at church activities, which is often reflected in decreased donations. Have you considered setting up a regular, automatic donation to the Chapel's general operating
budget?
The PayPal button here as an option for one-time or monthly donation. If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.
Thank you from our Treasurer, Bill Smith

Four Fishing Partners Called as Disciples Luke 5:1-11 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a
little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and
they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed
him.
True Christianity 369 Our partnership with God is what gives us salvation and eternal life. Human beings were created with the capability of being in a partnership with God. We were created to be citizens of heaven and also citizens of the world. We are spiritual so we can be citizens of heaven and earthly so we can be citizens of the world. Our spiritual self is capable of thinking about God and perceiving
things that relate to God. It is also capable of loving God and being moved by things that come from God. It follows that we are able to be in a partnership with God. In fact, what else is faith but a partnership with God by means of truths that shape our understanding and thought? What else is love but a partnership with God through goodness that shapes our intentions and desires? God’s connection to us is a spiritual connection that comes to an earthly plane; our connection to God is an
earthly connection that comes from a spiritual plane. The ultimate purpose in creating us citizens of heaven and also citizens of the world was this partnership. As citizens of heaven we are spiritual and as citizens of the world we are earthly. Therefore if we become spiritual-and-rational and also spiritual-and-moral, we forge a partnership with God. Through this partnership we have salvation and eternal life.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
