Relationships make the world go round Last Sunday I talked about partnering with the Lord and with each other in the practice of cultivating spiritual growth and choosing heavenly joy. Healthy partnerships have healthy boundaries. This is true on a large scale, such as relationships between cultures and
nations, as well as on a small scale in relationships between married partners and family members. We can work better with each other when we take care of ourselves and at the same time be respectful of the boundaries of our loved ones. This Sunday I want to offer some thoughts on an aspect of healthy relationships - good boundaries. See below for a few readings about walls and gates mentioned in the Bible and in Swedenborg's writings. These are
symbolic of the dynamics of boundaries in our spiritual lives and in our relationships. I hope you can come and participate! NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER - when Lauren A is unavailable because of her face painting gigs. Temporarily, starting this Sunday, Lissette G will be teaching the children
during Sunday School. We look forward to having her on board and helping! If you have any questions, please contact Elise Gladish, our Sunday School Coordinator.
New Children's Talk Series - the Biblical story of the Prophet Elijah Thank you to Frank Rose for helping highlight eleven stories in the Bible ABOUT children
over the past 3 months. It was a great series for the summer, and it's good for our children to identify with some of the children in Biblical times. We are now starting a new series of Children's Talks on the subject of the prophet Elijah. This first one is about him being fed in the wilderness in a miraculous way.
Speaking of Children - TEEN TIME!!Most Friday afternoons from about 5:30-6:00 pm at the church, led by yours truly. Casual. Thoughtful. Fun. Contact Rachael Casto or me if interested. Planning for an "Authors and
Artists" event - Friday, Oct. 5 @ 6:30 pm We have a number of authors and authors "in residence" who are eager to share their work with us and the public. At our planning meeting last Sunday, we decided to hold the event on Friday, Oct. 5 in Friendship Hall starting at 6:30 pm for mingling and refreshments, followed by
short talks at 7 pm by any authors and artists who would like to say anything about their work.
Next Meeting for our Big Benefit Fundraiser in FebruaryOur next planning meeting will be after church on Sunday, September 23. In the
meantime, anyone can solicit donations from local businesses! Someone is currently inviting a donation from a beautiful historic resort in Tubac. Wouldn't that be awesome? Or what about a set of tires from a local tire company? Or an annual family membership to the world-famous Desert Museum? It doesn't hurt to ask!
Thinking of you all with love and respect, Nathan

Service Project - Helping The Tucson Wildlife Center
|

GIVING OF OURSELVES TO OUR COMMUNITY "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’" Acts 20:35 (NIV)
Our
“Serve More People Team” has met several times discussing ways we and our church can serve others not only in our church, but also in our community. What better way to empower ourselves and show our love than to reach out to one of our neighbors, The Tucson Wildlife Center.
The Tucson Wildlife Center, located at almost the farthest East you can go on Speedway, is dedicated to the rescue, emergency medical care, and rehabilitation
of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife before return to the wild, while promoting education, habitat protection and peaceful coexistence with wildlife. They are Southern Arizona’s only state-of-the-art wildlife hospital running 24/7, 365 days a year, taking in nearly 3,500 animals a year, with operating costs approaching $1,000 a day for the medical treatment, care, feeding, and rehabilitation of native wildlife before they are ready to be returned to the wild.
There are many ways to help them through monetary donations, buying a "Dedication Brick", leaving a legacy, volunteering, etc. However, our church is doing something a little unique...
For the next 6 weeks, we are throwing a “shower” to help provide ongoing needed supplies from their “Wish List”. These wish
lists can be found in the church lobby... You can pick up an item on your next trip(s) to the grocery store. Pick up as much as you can of whatever you can and bring your items each week to church, depositing them in the boxes provided in the lobby.

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa Activity: Dinner + Dancing + Auction fundraising
event! NEW INFO: Someone is currently looking into a donation from a beautiful, historic resort in Tubac - that would be an awesome addition to our auction items! Stay tuned.
Also, Gail wants everyone to know that she is really counting on others to participate in soliciting donations from businesses.
ANYONE CAN DO IT! The more donations, the more fun, and the more potential for funds!
It is helpful to take a copy of the “official” letter from the Pastor with you, and leave it with the appropriate person at the place of business. Copies of the letter and envelopes are on a table in the Chapel front lobby.
Our next planning meeting is Sunday, September 23 after church. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and join the fun.
The idea of this gala is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on. This kind of event is not only fun, but
it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel. It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off. The plan is to do a lot of preparation in the next couple of months since people get really busy in November and December; then pick up momentum again in January. Put a big star on Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna
be great! ~Nathan

Sunrise Chapel Needs Summertime Donations
|
|
Please consider Sunrise Chapel in your charitable giving this month. Your dedication and support throughout the year is
invaluable. However, with folks going and coming on vacations, summertime is typically a time of lower attendance at church activities, which is often reflected in decreased donations. Have you considered setting up a regular, automatic donation to the Chapel's general operating
budget?
The PayPal button here as an option for one-time or monthly donation. If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.
Thank you from our Treasurer, Bill Smith

The Glory of Zion Isaiah 60:18 No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.
A Vision of Walls and Gates of the Holy City, Jerusalem Revelation 21 (selected
verses) One of the seven angels… came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names
of the twelve tribes of Israel. There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and
high as it is long. The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits thick. The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.
Apocalypse Revealed 898, 899
(parts) “It had a great and high wall.” This symbolizes the Word in its literal sense from which the doctrine of the New Church comes. Since the vision of the holy city Jerusalem means the Lord's New Church in respect to its doctrine, its wall can only mean the Word in its literal sense, from which its doctrine comes; for the literal sense protects the spiritual meaning that lies within, as a wall protects a city and its inhabitants. Gates symbolize concepts of truth and goodness from the Word, because a person is introduced into the church by them. Moreover we are later told that "the twelve gates were twelve pearls: each gate was of one pearl" (verse 21), and pearls symbolize concepts of truth and goodness. Clearly it is by these concepts that people are introduced into the church, as through gates into a city.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
