Mountains are essential to maintaining our earth's climate They are an integral part of the overall water cycle, and they provide for a tremendous variety of wildlife. Similarly, the hundreds of references to mountains in the Bible indicate that they must be symbolic of various states of spiritual
life. This Sunday let's explore the symbolism of mountains in the Bible and relate this to our spiritual loves and lives. Planning for an "Authors and Artists" event - Friday, Oct. 5 @ 6:30 pm See
below for a beautiful invitation created by Sammie A! We have a number of authors and artists "in residence" who are eager to share their work with us and the public. The event is on Friday, Oct. 5 in Friendship Hall starting at 6:30 pm for mingling and refreshments, followed by short talks at 7 pm by any authors and artists who would like to
say anything about their work. Mark your calendars!
Memorial Celebration of Life for Steve Hildebrandt - Sunday, Oct. 7 @ 3 PM All are invited and welcome to attend this service for Johanna's son who passed unexpectedly. A catered dinner will be served afterwards in Friendship
Hall. Everyone welcome.
NEW start time routine for Sunday Luncheons Our dedicated volunteers in our kitchen request that you wait to serve yourself lunch until after the kitchen bell is rung and someone (any volunteer) asks a blessing. Please mingle and help yourself to a beverage as the final preparations are made.
Thank you for your cooperation! And thank you to everyone who helps with clean up, too!
NEW keyboardist for Sunday church services
I was very happy to welcome Mariana, a friend of Pablo and Lissette, to play our keyboard
last Sunday! She is a very accomplished pianist, currently in a doctoral program at the U of A. I do hope that we can continue to have her play! She will play this again Sunday, and then our Board will discuss the financial considerations. If you would like to support our music ministry, please talk with our treasurer, Bill Smith. Board Meeting this Sunday, Sept. 30 Thank you to our Board members who will meet after our church luncheon this Sunday. We have a variety of financial topics to discuss and we need to continue to plan for our Semi-annual Church Meeting that is tentatively planned for Sunday October 14 after the luncheon.
New Sunday School Teacher Thank you to Pablo's wife, Lissette, who is stepping in to help with our Sunday School when Lauren A is on her new adventures in face painting. If you have any questions, please contact Elise Gladish, our Sunday School Coordinator.
Current Children's Talk Series - the Biblical story of the Prophet Elijah For 7 Sundays of Children's Talks, we are studying the life of the prophet Elijah. The first one was about him being fed in the wilderness in a miraculous way. Then we learned about him being fed by a widow in a different miraculous way. Elijah is one of the most famous and powerful prophets in the Biblical books of Kings.
It's good for the children to get an introduction to his story.
Speaking of Children - TEEN TIME!!Most Friday afternoons from about 5:30-6:00 pm at the church, led by yours truly. Casual. Thoughtful. Fun. Contact Rachael Casto or me if
interested. Thinking of you all with love and respect,
Nathan

Ongoing Service Project - Helping The Tucson Wildlife Center

GIVING OF OURSELVES TO OUR COMMUNITY "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’" Acts 20:35 (NIV)
Our
“Serve More People Team” has met several times discussing ways we and our church can serve others not only in our church, but also in our community. What better way to empower ourselves and show our love than to reach out to one of our neighbors, The Tucson Wildlife Center.
The Tucson Wildlife Center, located at almost the farthest East you can go on Speedway, is dedicated to the rescue, emergency medical care, and rehabilitation
of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife before return to the wild, while promoting education, habitat protection and peaceful coexistence with wildlife. They are Southern Arizona’s only state-of-the-art wildlife hospital running 24/7, 365 days a year, taking in nearly 3,500 animals a year, with operating costs approaching $1,000 a day for the medical treatment, care, feeding, and rehabilitation of native wildlife before they are ready to be returned to the wild.
There are many ways to help them through monetary donations, buying a "Dedication Brick", leaving a legacy, volunteering, etc. However, our church is doing something a little unique...
For the next few weeks, we are throwing a “shower” to help provide ongoing needed supplies from their “Wish List”. These wish
lists can be found in the church lobby... You can pick up an item on your next trip(s) to the grocery store. Pick up as much as you can of whatever you can and bring your items each week to church, depositing them in the boxes provided in the lobby.
If you have any questions, please contact Darleen Raulerson

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa Activity: Dinner + Dancing + Auction fundraising
event!
NEW INFO: The list of donations continues to grow. I have volunteered to be the "list keeper" for all the donations we are receiving in preparation for the fundraiser. If you want
to see the whole list, just ask me. If you have a new donation to add to the list, please give me the details so I can keep the list current and up-to-date. Thank you! ~Nathan
And we had another good planning meeting last Sunday, September 23 after
lunch.
Also, Gail B wants everyone to know that she is really counting on others to participate in soliciting donations from businesses. ANYONE CAN DO IT! This Sunday let's discuss more tips for how to do this effectively. The more donations, the more fun, and the more potential for funds!
It is helpful to take a copy of the “official” letter from the Pastor with you, and leave it with the appropriate person at the place of business. Copies of the letter and envelopes are on a table in the Chapel front lobby.
The idea of this gala is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on. This kind of event is not only fun, but it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel. It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off. Put a big star on your calendar for Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family
and friends. It's gonna be great! ~Nathan

people who share spiritual vision and hope.
The PayPal button here takes you to an option for either a one-time or a monthly donation. If you write a check,

Readings for
this Sunday's church service

The Mountain of the LORD Micah 4:1-5 In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may
walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the LORD Almighty has
spoken. All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.
Jesus on a Mountain Luke 9:28-36 Jesus took Peter, John, and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was
saying.) While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.
The Symbolism
of Mountains Apocalypse Revealed 336 Mountains and hills in the Word symbolize heaven and the church where love toward the Lord and love for the neighbor are found. In the opposite sense, they symbolize hell where self-love and worldliness are found.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
