Our Annual Thanksgiving Celebration is this Sunday, Nov. 18!

1. THIS SUNDAY'S WORSHIP SERVICE ON "Practicing Amazement"
I think an important part of sincere, meaningful thanksgiving is some amount of amazement. And as I prepare for this Sunday's message I'm amazed at how many times awe and amazement are referred to in the Bible and the writings of Swedenborg! They keep jumping out in my research! I'm excited to bring some of the energy of this response to our attention. See below for just a few quotations that highlight this.
2. SUNDAY'S FOOD COLLECTION
You are invited to bring a canned or boxed donation for our local Food Bank and place it on the chancel as you come in to worship. Let it be a reminder for us of all our blessings as well as the needs of our brothers and sisters beyond our church.
3. SUNDAY'S SUPER DELUXE LUNCHEON
Everyone is welcome to join the fun of our annual Thanksgiving feast. Please help make it special by bringing a favorite dish or item to share. Even if you haven't told anyone that you are bringing something, just bring it on and join the festivities!
Lots more coming up and going on - see below for details!
Thinking of you all with love and respect,
Nathan

Continuing Plans for our Annual Path to Bethlehem
|
|
Thank you for your help!
It takes a lot of volunteers and cookie donations to offer our Path to Bethlehem as a gift to our Tucson community. And it also takes financial support, and we don't rely on guests contributing. It is our "Christmas greeting" to our friends and neighbors.
Thank you in advance to those who are able to help with monetary donations!
If you feel called to give to this cause, please add a memo so our treasurer knows your donation is for the Path to Bethlehem.
* Sponsor our shepherd, Beryl, and one or two sheep for $60 each. Thank you to two donors so far!
* Donate toward Christmas trees for the Chapel - about $75 each
* Help us improve our event sets, lighting, and sound equipment - up to $150
* Safety "event signage" on Wrightstown Road - $40

"Open" group - anyone welcome
Wednesdays at 1 pm
Each Wednesday, "rain or shine." Dive into the details of the Gospel story from Luke's perspective. It's amazing how much there is to talk about in just a couple of verses! The Bible is the most important and fascinating book in the world. The teachings of Swedenborg say the Bible story has layer upon layer of
spiritual meaning. We will go at the group's pace, taking questions and comments as they come up. It's a study, not a lecture.
Anyone welcome. We meet in the small room off the lobby of the main Chapel.
Bring a Bible, bring a friend.

One final meeting in this Book Study
|
|
We have one last chapter in this study of life after death. This week we looked as positively and mercifully as possible about the existence of "hell" and discussed "good things" about it. On Thursday, November 29 we will conclude our study.
For Thursday, November 29, please read Chapter 10 "Coming Home." Bring your questions and comments!

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa
Activity: Dinner + Musical Entertainment + Auction fundraising event!
NEW INFORMATION:
Last Sunday we had an impromptu meeting after lunch to discuss more details of our preparations. We are focusing on the look and feel of the invitation (and other promotional materials) as well as the schedule of the evening's activities.
Also, last Sunday during announcements at the end of the church service, Jack Baty invited everyone to consider something he and his wife, Billie, are doing - planning ahead for this event by setting aside some personal funds each month to make it easier to participate with enthusiasm.
The idea of this event is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on. This kind of event is not only fun,
but it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel.
It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off.
Put a big star on your calendar for Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna be great! ~Nathan

Thank you for considering Sunrise Chapel in your charitable giving
Every church organization has many financial obligations, but the most important thing your gift supports is a sense of spiritual community among people who share a vision for serving more people with our message and our love. Sunrise Chapel relies on the generosity and dedication of donors to pay the bills so the important and meaningful ministries to many people can continue.
If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.

Filled with Awe
Psalm 65:1-8
Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.
You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.
Matthew 9:1-8
Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
Amazement at God’s Work
Divine Providence 3
Everything that meets our eyes in this world can serve to convince us that the universe and absolutely everything in it was created out of divine love by means of divine wisdom. Take any particular thing and look at it with some wisdom, and this will be clear. Look at a tree--or its seed, its fruit, its flower, or its leaf. Collect your wits and look through a good microscope and you will see incredible things; and the deeper things that you cannot see are even more incredible.
Look at a silkworm or a bee or some little creature and examine it, first physically, then rationally, and finally spiritually. If you can think deeply, you will be stunned at everything. If you listen to the inner voice of wisdom, you will exclaim in amazement, "Can anyone fail to see Divinity here? These are the marks of divine wisdom!"
