This Sunday - Becoming an Angel
|
|
Becoming an Angel: How the Lord grows our spirituality from within The process in which human beings grow from being largely materialistic and self-centered to become angels who focus on using their lives to serve the Lord and others is miraculous and wonderful. The Lord plants the seeds for this growth in our hearts,
but He from His omnipotent power, lifts us up as we turn to Him with a willingness to cooperate with His Divine ends. The Lord is always at work to help us grow. David Lindrooth, Regional Pastor
November is upon us! We have a lot of activities to work on
together! * A visit from our Regional Pastor, David Lindrooth - November 3 & 4 (see below) * Holy Supper on November 4 * Sunday morning Bible Study led by Michael Brown - staring this Sunday and each Sunday in November from 9:30-10:45 * A one-time video-conference at
Sunrise Chapel with Professor Neil Simonetti talking about the current excitement at the Bryn Athyn College of the New Church - Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 pm at Sunrise Chapel. RSVP to me * Annual Thanksgiving Dinner - Sunday Nov. 18 * Preparations for our annual Path to Bethlehem - Saturday Dec. 1 *
Service projects Pastor at a Conference Friday, Nov. 2, I will be attending an all-day conference for professionals and care givers here in Tucson. It is the 18th annual End-of-Life Community Conference, and it features a variety of plenary sessions and workshops related to bereavement and grief
support. This is of interest partly because of my facilitating the Tuesday night "Transitions" Grief Support Group at Sunrise Chapel, which Janna Excel started years ago and maintained until her death last year. Participating in this conference is also an opportunity for me to network with others, learn from them, and share the unique Memorial Ministry that Sunrise Chapel supports.
Thinking of you all with
love and respect, Nathan

Welcome back our Regional Pastor, David Lindrooth
|
|
David Lindrooth will visit and preach this weekend Saturday Nov. 3 from 11 am to 1 pm you are invited to meet with David in an informal group setting to discuss anything about the state of the church locally or globally.
If you prefer to meet with him one-on-one, contact him to make arrangements - most likely Saturday afternoon.
David is the Director of Outreach for our global church. In this capacity he travels the world and supports many pastors and congregations. Recently he had a
very positive visit to our congregation in Kenya, Africa. Just after that he was in Portland, OR. He tries to visit Sunrise Chapel twice a year, since he is our Regional Pastor. And he has a special love for Sunrise Chapel having been an assistant pastor for several years back in the 1990s.
Part of the purpose of this visit is to conduct my annual professional development
review. So, the more input he receives from you, the better. To set up a visit or just to connect with David, email him at david.lindrooth@newchurch.org or call/text him at 215-514-0388

Let's Look at Luke Wednesdays at 1 pm We are enjoying our amble through the Gospel of Luke, and we welcome you to join the study. It's amazing how much there is to talk about in just a couple of
verses! The Bible is the most important and fascinating book in the world. Right now we are reading and discussing together the Gospel of Luke. We will go at the group's pace, taking questions and comments as they come up. It's a study, not a lecture. Anyone
welcome. We meet in the small room off the lobby of the main Chapel. Bring a Bible, bring a friend. ~Nathan

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa Activity: Dinner + Dancing + Auction fundraising
event!
NEW INFO: Next Planning Meeting on November 4 after lunch
Also, Gail B wants everyone to know that she is really counting on others to participate in soliciting donations from businesses. ANYONE CAN DO
IT! This Sunday let's discuss more tips for how to do this effectively. The more donations, the more fun, and the more potential for funds!
It is helpful to take a copy of the “official” letter from the Pastor with you, and leave it with the appropriate person at the place of business. Copies of the letter and envelopes are on a table in the Chapel front
lobby.
The idea of this gala is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on. This kind of
event is not only fun, but it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel. It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off. Put a big star on your calendar for Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna be great! ~Nathan

community among people who share a vision and hope.
The PayPal button here takes you to an option for either a one-time or a monthly donation. If you write a check,

Readings for
this Sunday's church service

Genesis 28:10-17 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending
and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over
you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” True Christianity
§24 Until now, no one has known anything about the spiritual world, where there are spirits and angels and where we go after we die. (b) The spiritual world has a sun that is pure love from Jehovah God, who is within that sun. (c) The heat from that sun is essentially love, and its light is essentially wisdom. (d) As a result, everything in that world is spiritual and affects us in our inner selves, forming our will and our intellect at that
level. (e) By means of that sun, Jehovah God produced not only the spiritual world and all the countless spiritual things in it, which are substantial, but also the material world and all the countless material things in it, which are physical. (f) Until now, no one has known the difference between "spiritual" and "earthly," or even what "spiritual" essentially means. (g) No one has known that there are three levels of love and wisdom that have been used to structure the angelic heavens. (h) No
one has known that the human mind is differentiated into the same number of levels so that we can be lifted to one of the three heavens after death, depending on our life and faith. (i) Lastly, none of the above would be the case for one instant were it not for the underlying divine reality - the Absolute in itself; the First and the Beginning from which all things exist. Even though these are the concepts we need in order to go higher and recognize the divine reality, they
have been lacking until now. I say that we go higher, but I really mean that we are taken up by God. We have free will; we can use it to gain religious knowledge. When we exercise our intellect and gain religious knowledge from the Word, we smooth a pathway that God can use to come down and lift us up. The concepts that can lift our intellect higher, and let God take us by the hand and lead us, can be compared to the steps on the ladder
that Jacob saw. It was set up on the ground but the top of it stretched into heaven. Angels were climbing up on it and Jehovah was standing above it.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
