Church Services this Sunday and Monday
SUNDAY, Dec. 23 at 11 am - 4th Sunday of Advent: The Gift of LOVE
MONDAY, Dec. 24 - Christmas Eve
5 pm Family-oriented service including one talk for everyone, a gift for children under High School age, and refreshments afterwards
7 pm Candlelight Vespers service. A quieter, reflective opportunity to celebrate the miracle of Christ's birth into our lives
This Sunday will be a time to celebrate the essential force of life - the gift of LOVE.
Love is not just a feeling that comes and goes. Swedenborg says it's so much more basic, permanent, and pervasive than that: "Love is a person's life." (Divine Love and Wisdom 1). And at Christmas we get a strong reminder that true and abiding love showed up in human form in the person of Jesus Christ.
As Elise and I think of you all at this special time of year, we hope you feel the Lord's love in your life. We are grateful for our relationship with you, and we not only enjoy working, and worshiping, and relaxing with you, but our hearts go out to each of you, because we love you, we respect you, and we wish for you the Lord's blessings.
With affection, and with eagerness to share the Lord's love,
Nathan & Elise

Upcoming "Journey of
Spiritual Growth"
|
|
Six-week program starts Sunday January 13
Each Sunday will feature one topic and spiritual growth task connected with the text, Love Over Ego
Join a weekly small group starting the week of January 13
Love Over Ego offers a 6-week program for people to come together and learn how to access their higher selves, even in challenging situations.
This program follows the biblical story of Daniel from his early days as a child captive in Babylon, to becoming one of the most respected leaders of the nation. Throughout each chapter, we witness the clash between the ego of the Babylonian rulers and the humble confidence of Daniel and his friends. As Daniel
and his friends boldly face the powerful Babylonian rulers, we glimpse ways that vanity, manipulation and desire to control never hold up to the grounding power of confidence, love, and true self-worth. In times when we find ourselves getting lost again in a self-focused mindset, Love Over Ego challenges us to remember what matters most.
The program workbook includes meditations, discussion questions, and daily readings to help participants bring the power of the story’s message into their own lives. The themes of Love Over Ego will also be featured in our youth programs with amazing array of projects and activities accompanying each of the
Biblical stories.

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa
Activity: Dinner + Musical Entertainment + Auction fundraising event!
NEW INFORMATION:
Our website is getting populated with additional information about this event. Check www.sunrisechapel.org for a growing list of items for the silent auction! Additional details will be posted as they develop.
Although the deadline for turning in your RSVP is January 15, the sooner we know of your interest and how many to plan for, the better! Thank you for your love and support!
The idea of this event is to provide a fun, social evening, including a meal, entertainment, and an auction of goods and services that a broad audience will bid on. This kind of event is not only fun,
but it can also be morale-boosting as we work together on a common project. It can also be an opportunity to welcome friends and others who appreciate Sunrise Chapel.
It will take collaboration and lots of planning to pull it off.
Put a big star on your calendar for Friday February 8, 2019. Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna be great! ~Nathan

Thank you for supporting this spiritual home

Sunrise Chapel means many things to many people. It is a place where people are fed spiritually and naturally. It is place where many people from our community find community. For many it is a long-time spiritual home, unique from any other. And the Lord keeps sending people for us to serve and to love.
We are SO CLOSE to meeting our current matching goal for the new Endowment Fund. Once we get the remaining $370, we will collect the additional funds from a remote donor that will bring our balance to $8,000! That's a very good start for the first year!!
And when you give to Sunrise Chapel's General Operating Fund, you are helping keep the doors open and the ministries thriving in our down-to-earth efforts to serve more people.
Thank you for considering Sunrise Chapel in your charitable giving
If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.
The PayPal button here takes you to an option for either a one-time or a monthly donation.

Readings for this
Sunday's Church Service - About Love
|
The Word Became Flesh
John 1:2,3,14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Love One Another
John 15:9-15
Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants,
because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
The Nature of Love
Divine Love and Wisdom 1 & 4—Emanuel Swedenborg
Love is our very life. For most people, the existence of love is a given, but
the nature of love is a mystery. Even though the word “love” is so commonly on our tongues, still hardly anyone knows what love is. We are wholly unaware that it is our very life—not just the general life of our whole body and of all our thoughts, but the life of their every least detail.
Wise people can grasp this when you ask, “If you take away the effects of love, can you think anything? Can you do anything? As the effects of love lose their warmth, do not thought and speech and action lose theirs as well? Do they not warm up as love warms up?”
God alone—the Lord—is love itself, because he is life itself. Both we on earth and angels are life-receivers.
