Week 2 - Intentions Over Expectations
In the Biblical story of the Prophet Daniel, the domineering king Nebuchadnezzar places unreasonable expectations on his subjects to try to get what he wants. In contrast, Daniel shows noble intentions to understand what God wants. This Sunday we'll continue our study of LOVE OVER EGO, moving from the basic definitions of love and ego into a study of their roles in what we intend and what we expect.
SMALL GROUPS - YAY!
Four small groups are off to a great start! They are open groups in the sense that you are invited to join anyone anytime. See below for details on the schedules of the groups. THANK YOU to our leaders - Steve Gladish (Sunday morning), yours truly (Wednesday afternoon), Mike Villeburn (Wednesday night), Kelly Woofenden (Thursday night
Women's Group)
Our first-of-its-kind Fundraising Event on Friday, Feb. 8 - "Transformations"
I hope you have already received a beautiful, informative, printed invitation to Sunrise Chapel's first-of-its-kind benefit fundraiser being held at La Mariposa Resort on February 8! You can also find information on our website sunrisechapel.org If you haven't received your personal invite, please let me or Elise or Gail Benton know, and one of us will send one to you.
Although the "soft" deadline for RSVPs was on the 15th of January, we will continue to welcome your reply cards! It is good to have an idea how many to plan for, and the team is eager to accommodate more! Please let the team know your intentions. The sooner we know, the better!
Planning Meeting for February Fundraiser After Church this Sunday
It will take a strong team of volunteers to help this event run smoothly, before, during and after! There is still quite a list of things to do in preparation for this big event! Please come and consider how you can help make this event successful.
Spaghetti Luncheon this Sunday
Once again, our Treasurer, Bill Smith, is preparing his delicious, homemade spaghetti sauce (from scratch) with both vegetarian and meat options for our Kitchen Ministry. Give Bill high fives for his culinary creation! It's a several-day labor of love with delicious aromas filling Sunrise Chapel's kitchens and Friendship Hall!
With love and respect,

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa
Activity: Dinner + Musical Entertainment + Auction fundraising event!
NEW INFORMATION:
Thank you so much to everyone who has returned a response card. Keep them coming! The "soft" deadline was last Tuesday, but read below for more details on the second deadline.
Want to help?! Come to another planning meeting after church this Sunday, January 20. This Sunday, the team will focus on gathering information on the auction items that have been donated and delivered. And there are a lot of other tasks to do to be fully prepared for this special event.
We have a growing list of donations that will be auctioned off in several ways. There are a variety of overnight experiences such as a luxury stays at the Westward Look Resort and Tubac Golf and Country Club. And there are many three-dimensional items like original art work by local artists, tickets to the theater, and handmade jewelry.
But the MOST IMPORTANT thing for this event to be a huge success is the personal presence of 75 people. You can help by personally talking it up!
The first deadline for turning in your RSVP was January 15. Our next big deadline is February 3 when we tell La Mariposa how many people we expect to attend! We are certainly still accepting RSVPs, but the sooner we know of your interest and how many to plan for, the better! Thank you for your love and support!
What will the money raised be used for? This is a fundraiser for Sunrise Chapel as a non profit with a unique purpose, mission, and values. Funds will be used to support the various ministries and needs. One of the original, primary motivations for this fundraiser was (and still is) to support the Kitchen Ministry and the Sunday luncheons. Beyond that, just think of the many things we do as a church to be able to serve
as many people as possible with the unique and inspiring message for cultivating spiritual growth and choosing heavenly joy. This is not just a platitude. My primary effort as pastor of this church community is to help us serve more people with the teachings of the New Church as they apply in our daily spiritual walk toward heaven. This is part of a vision that this fundraiser supports.
Friday February 8, 2019 is coming right up! Consider it a big "date night" or some special event with family and friends. It's gonna be great! ~Nathan

Daniel Interprets a Dream
from Daniel 2:1-20 (parts)
In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, he had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means.”
Then the astrologers answered the king, “May the king live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it.”
The king replied to the astrologers, “This is what I have firmly decided: If you do not tell me what my dream was and interpret it, I will have you cut into pieces and your houses turned into piles of rubble. But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me...”
The astrologers answered the king, “There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks!... No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among humans.”
This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. So the decree was issued to put the wise men to death, and men were sent to look for Daniel and his friends to put them to death.
When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact. He asked the king’s officer, “Why did the king issue such a harsh decree?” Arioch then explained the matter to Daniel. At this, Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him...
During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision.
Heavenly Intentions
Secrets of Heaven §10719
Heaven resides with a person in the inner self, thus in the person's thought and intentions, and from these in the outer self, that is, in the person's words and actions, but not in the outer self without the inner. For all hypocrites know how to say the right things and do the right things, but they are incapable of right thinking or of having right intentions. It should be understood that right thinking and right intentions mean the thoughts and intentions that spring from a love of good and a
belief in what is true.
