Week 4 - Humility over Shame
In this week's episode of the Biblical story of the Prophet Daniel, king Nebuchadnezzar has another disturbing dream, this time of a great tree being cut down. Daniel interprets the king's dream, and his interpretation comes true.
We'll continue our study of LOVE OVER EGO this Sunday, moving into the contrast between humility and shame.

Coming to a situation with a desire to love and serve, rather than expecting to be served.
Week 3: Confidence Over Arrogance
Staying centered and present, even in highly charged situations.
Week 4: Humility Over Shame
Accepting that we are imperfect, and learning from our mistakes.

Fundraising Gala Friday February 8, 2019
|
|
Location: La Mariposa
Activity: Dinner + Musical Entertainment + Auction fundraising event!
NEW INFORMATION:
We are beginning our final week of preparations for this first-of-a-kind-for-us event. Thank you so much to everyone who has returned a response card. We are close to our goal of 75 diners, and we can still accommodate more. The sooner we know, the better. Thank you for your support!
This Sunday at 3 pm we tell the caterer how many people we expect to attend! We are certainly still accepting RSVPs, but the sooner we know of your interest and how many to plan for, the better! Thank you for your love and support.
The number of items for our auction has grown to over 80! There are a variety of overnight experiences such as a luxury stays at the Westward Look Resort and Tubac Golf and Country Club. And there are many three-dimensional items like original art work by local artists, tickets to the theater, and handmade jewelry.
What will the money raised be used for? This is a fundraiser for Sunrise Chapel as a non profit with a unique purpose, mission, and values. Funds will be used to support the various ministries and needs. One of the original, primary motivations for this fundraiser was (and still is) to support the Kitchen Ministry and the Sunday luncheons. Beyond that, just think of the many things we do as a church to be able to serve
as many people as possible with the unique and inspiring message for cultivating spiritual growth and choosing heavenly joy. This is not just a platitude. My primary effort as pastor of this church community is to help us serve more people with the teachings of the New Church as they apply in our daily spiritual walk toward heaven. This is part of a vision that this fundraiser supports.
Thank you for your generous support of Sunrise Chapel. It's gonna be a fun, entertaining night! ~Nathan

Electronic payment option at the upcoming Benefit
|
|
At the Benefit Fundraiser, you will have a choice to pay for any items, experiences, and raffles with cash, check, or credit/debit card. When you arrive at the event and check in at the registration table, you will be asked which method you'd prefer to use. During the event, all ticket sales and winning bids will be entered into a software database so that winners will only pay once
when you "check out" after all the auctions and raffles close. This will help make the checkout process quick and easy.
If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.
Thank you from our Treasurer, Bill Smith

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree
from Daniel 4:4-37 (parts)
“I, Nebuchadnezzar, was in my palace. As I was lying in bed, the visions of my head troubled me. Daniel came and I told him the dream.
Before me stood a tree in the middle of the land. Its height was enormous. The tree grew large and strong and its top touched the heavens; it was visible to the ends of the earth. Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all. Under it animals found shelter, and birds lived in its branches; from it every creature was fed.
“I saw a watcher coming down from heaven. He called: ‘Cut down the tree and cut off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals get out from under it and the birds from its branches. But let the stump and its roots remain. Let him be wet with the dew of heaven, and let it live with the animals among the plants. Let his heart be changed from a man and be the heart of an animal, till seven times pass by.’”
Daniel answered, “O King, the tree you saw, which grew large and strong—you are that tree! You have become great and strong; your greatness has grown until it reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to end of the earth. “The king saw a holy one coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it….’
You will be driven away from people and live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High reigns over all kingdoms on earth. The command to leave the stump with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
King Nebuchadnezzar was walking on the roof of the palace he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” Immediately King Nebuchadnezzar was driven away and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.
“At the end of that, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me. At the same time my sanity was restored and I was restored to my throne. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because all His works are truth and His ways just.”
The Importance of Humility
Secrets of Heaven 1153
All genuine worship consists in reverence for the Lord. Reverence for the Lord consists in humility, and humility consists in admitting the truth about ourselves: that there is nothing living and nothing good inside ourselves... It also consists in acknowledging that the Lord is the source of everything living and everything good. The more we acknowledge this with our hearts rather than our lips, the more humble we will be. The humbler we are, the more reverence we will have, the more love and
charity we will feel, and the happier we will be.
