Week 5 - Contentment over Materialism
This Sunday's topic comes serendipitously at just the right time... right after the much-anticipated fundraising activity tonight at La Mariposa! But let me assure you that I am already content with the results of all the planning and efforts of so many thoughtful people for tonight's Benefit. It has been an opportunity for many people to work together for a good and noble cause. You have been very generous, and we
have certainly learned a lot. I am proud of you -- all you members and friends of Sunrise Chapel! And we are going to have a good time tonight celebrating our faith community!
SMALL GROUPS
Four small groups are going well! They are open groups in the sense that you are invited to join any of them anytime. Scroll below for details on the schedules of the groups. THANK YOU to our leaders - Steve Gladish (Sunday morning), yours truly (Wednesday afternoon), Mike Villeburn (Wednesday night), Kelly Woofenden (Thursday
night Women's Group)

Thank you to everyone for the collaborative and enjoyable way you have all rallied to work together on this! We have already had a good time, and we've certainly learned a lot.
We have about 70 guests from near and far. A few friends are traveling from Phoenix, Wisconsin, Michigan, and as far away as Massachusetts! And even folks who cannot attend have supported us in our efforts with donations of items or funds. THANK YOU EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!
What will the money raised be used for? This is a fundraiser for Sunrise Chapel as a non profit with a unique purpose, mission, and values. Funds will be used to support the various ministries and needs. One of the original, primary motivations for this fundraiser was (and still is) to support the Kitchen Ministry and the Sunday luncheons. Beyond that, just think of the many things we do as a church to be able to serve
as many people as possible with the unique and inspiring message for cultivating spiritual growth and choosing heavenly joy. This is not just a platitude. My primary effort as pastor of this church community is to help us serve more people with the teachings of the New Church as they apply in our daily spiritual walk toward heaven. This is part of a vision that this fundraiser supports.
Thank you for your generous support of Sunrise Chapel. I'm looking forward to a fun, entertaining night! ~Nathan

Choosing to respond from our higher nature, rather than from ego.
Week 2: Intention Over Expectation
Coming to a situation with a desire to love and serve, rather than expecting to be served.
Week 3: Confidence Over Arrogance
Staying centered and present, even in highly charged situations.
Week 4: Humility Over Shame
Accepting that we are imperfect, and learning from our mistakes.
Week 5: Contentment Over Materialism
Appreciating this moment, instead of constantly seeking “more.”
Week 6: Love Wins (Wrap-up and celebration)

Electronic payment option at the upcoming Benefit
|
|
At the Benefit Fundraiser, you will have a choice to pay for any items, experiences, and raffles with cash, check, or credit/debit card. When you arrive at the event and check in at the registration table, you will be asked which method you'd prefer to use. If you want, you can register your credit card so that checkout goes quickly. During the event, all ticket sales and winning
bids will be entered into a software database so that winners will only pay once at checkout after all the auctions and raffles close. This will help make the checkout process quick and easy.
If you write a check, make it to Sunrise Chapel.
Thank you from our Treasurer, Bill Smith

The Handwriting on the Wall
from Daniel 5:1-31 (parts) (NIV)
Nebuchadnezzar's son, King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand nobles. While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles might drink from them. So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles drank from them. Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and
wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak.
The king summoned the enchanters, astrologers and diviners. Then he said to these wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant.
The queen, hearing the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. She said. “Don’t be alarmed! There is a man in your kingdom who has the Spirit of the Holy God in him. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”
So Daniel was brought, and the king said to him, “If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
Then Daniel answered, “Keep your gifts and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means...
“This is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. These words mean: Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Upharsin: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”
Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
That night Belshazzar, was slain, and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom.
Contentment
Heaven and Hell §290
Peace flows in from the Lord into the very core of those who focus on heavenly goodness, and from that core comes down and spreads into their lower natures, causing peace of mind, relief of the spirit, and a consequent joy.
Materialism
Heaven and Hell §565
Materialism is wanting to divert the wealth of others to ourselves by any means available. It is setting our heart on wealth and allowing the world to distract us from the spiritual love that is love for our neighbor and therefore from heaven and the Divine.
