What Does It Mean to Sow?
|
|
This week's message: The Parable of the Sower
"A farmer went out to sow his seed.” So begins one of the famous parables that Jesus presented. Most of us don’t do much physical sowing, but when Jesus was teaching, everyone knew what sowing meant. This Sunday, let’s consider how it fits into our lives, especially spiritually.
Please welcome Jeremy Rose as our guest preacher. As a layman at the Virginia Street Swedenborgian Church in Minnesota, he preaches fairly regularly. He is also co-author with his father, Frank Rose, of a book about the art of preaching and listening to sermons.
Frank will co-lead the service and give the children's talk. I get the weekend off! Elise and I will be visiting family and helping to put on a baby shower for our youngest daughter.
Congratulations to graduates!
There have been many graduation ceremonies for students at various grade levels. Lucius C, Lily C, Jordan C, and Jace G graduated from 8th grade. Matthew B, Lance C, Nikos C, Colton G all graduated from high school. Great job, everyone! Best wishes on the next steps in your ongoing education!
Did I miss anyone? Please let me know!
We are very close to live streaming our church services!
We now have a You Tube channel where you will be able to view our Sunday services live and archived. The channel is called SunriseChapelLive. Try searching for it on You Tube, and then subscribe to receive updates. The camera and hardware is working great. It's just figuring out how to get the software to talk to each other nicely and collaborate!
Our Annual Church Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, June 9
Please see more details below. Consider coming and participating in this important meeting during the luncheon after the church service on Sunday, June 9.
I will be looking into the option of live streaming this meeting so that folks can participate remotely. More information to come.
Please Consider a Fiscal-Year-End Donation to Sunrise Chapel's General Fund
As the end of our fiscal year draws near (June 30), our treasurer, Bill Smith, is crunching numbers to provide a report at the upcoming Annual Meeting on June 9. Sunrise Chapel receives generous grants from various places for various specific projects, but the bottom line is that Sunrise Chapel's General
Fund must cover the difference between the grants we receive and our expenses. The General Fund needs your financial support, especially before the end of June. Any additional donations actually will make a difference.
You can make a PayPal donation anytime from our website page: sunrisechapel.org/donate/
Feel free to speak to Bill directly or any Board member for more information.
Thank you for your dedication and support of Sunrise Chapel's many uses.
With love and respect,

This is the rock in our Chapel that holds the special copy of the Word, which is opened at the beginning of each service. Each week this simple act of invoking the Lord's presence reminds us that
it is especially the worship of the Lord that brings us together. By gathering together in worship and by welcoming more people to be involved, we bring the Lord's church to life.
THANK YOU for sharing your love, your friendship, your creativity and talents, your interest in spiritual growth, and your willingness to support the variety of activities that happen in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the sake of His church in this section of the
globe.
Annual "Church" Meeting
Each year the legal By-Laws of the church as a non-profit corporation require us to hold an Annual Congregational Meeting with a quorum of members. This year our meeting will be Sunday, June 9 starting at 12:15 pm, during the luncheon. There are two main items of business: 1) Election of officers and
trustees and 2) Approval of the coming year's budget. There will also be a few reports on progress as well as explanations of plans for the coming year.
I hope you can participate and that you will consider it time well spent as we consider, together, how to implement the Lord's will for the growth of His church in our hearts, minds, and lives.
With love and respect,
Nathan

There is a current copy in the Chapel lobby for your updates.
If your contact information is already in the directory, make sure your listing is up-to-date and correct.
If you would like to add contact information, there is a clipboard in the Chapel lobby for you to write what you want included.
You can also email information to elisegladish@gmail.com
Please note that all the information in our directory is for community-building as a group of church members and friends, not for use in solicitations.

Arizona Mountain
Camp - July 9-14
|
|
This summer, our beloved family summer camp will be held at the same place as last year, 40 miles north of Globe, AZ, in the mountains just northeast of Lake Roosevelt. This camp has good creature-comforts for all ages, and it is very affordable. There will also be some
financial assistance for those who need it. We don’t want money to keep anyone away.
The site is owned and managed by the Arizona Elks Lodge to benefit children. Last year was our first time there, and people loved it.
Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda Waddell and Christine Morey have once again offered to organize meal planning and preparation. Yay! There will be opportunities for worship, small groups, and plenty of down time to enjoy friendships in the peace and quiet of this lovely mountain
forest.
We expect to welcome friends from our sister church in Phoenix this year!
SCHEDULE: The first full day of camp will be Wednesday, July 10 and the final day will be Sunday, July 14. (Tuesday, July 9 will be the set-up day.)

2 Corinthians 9
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures
forever.”
The Parable of the Sower
Luke 8:4-15
Jesus told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times
more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
His disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said, “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands
for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop."
True Christianity §154
We all know that after the Lord bestowed the Holy Spirit on the apostles, they preached the good news across much of the world and publicized it through speaking and writing. Peter wrote and taught one way, James another way, John a third, and Paul a fourth. Each of them used their own intelligence. The Lord filled them all with his spirit, but they each took a portion of it that depended on the quality of their perception, and they each exercised that portion depending on the quality of their
own ability.
All the angels in the heavens are filled with the Lord—they are in the Lord and the Lord is in them. Yet for each of them, the speech and action depends on the quality of the mind. Some speak and act simply, and some wisely, with infinite variety.
