The Challenge of Overcoming Loneliness

Dealing with Loneliness
Feeling lonesome is a very common experience. Longitudinal studies in the US indicate that the percentage of people who say they often feel lonely has risen from 20% - 40% in the past several decades. And just as loneliness is a complex mixture of unpleasant responses to isolation, so any solutions to loneliness include a variety of factors. Let’s explore a few antidotes based on teachings from the Lord.
A Few Upcoming Special Items
1) Next Sunday, the church service will feature a Memorial Day weekend theme.
2) On Sunday June 2, please welcome Jeremy Rose as our guest preacher. Although he is not an ordained minister, he is co-author of a book about preaching, and he is a regular lay preacher at a Swedenborgian Church where he lives in Minnesota.
3) Sunday June 9, during the luncheon, we will hold our Annual Church Meeting (see below).
New Financial Request Granted!
Last week I got the excellent news that the grant request I submitted in January to the Glencairn Foundation was approved! Not only that, but because of generous local and distant friends, we already have pledges to cover the $3,000 match! I am amazed and pleased. The grant is for $27,000, meaning that we will have $30,000 to devote to the projects itemized in the request. The projects revolve around
continuing to improve our welcome and reaching out to invite people so that we can serve them with what we offer. In other words - "promotion and marketing." I will need people to help research and implement various parts of the itemized projects, so if you are interested in learning more, contact me, and I will be happy to share more details! ~Nathan
Our Annual Church Meeting scheduled for Sunday, June 9
Please see more details below. Consider coming and participating in this important meeting during the luncheon after the church service on Sunday, June 9.
Please Consider a Fiscal-Year-End Donation to Sunrise Chapel's General Fund
The new grant referenced above does not go towards operating expenses. All the grant money is specifically directed to projects itemized in the request. This generous gift will allow us to improve in areas that our regular contributions can't cover. We still have the ongoing financial challenge to provide for all our budgeted expenses and to work toward financial self-sustainability.
As the end of our fiscal year draws near (June 30), our treasurer, Bill, reports that we are projected to need a little over $6,000 to meet our budgeted income for the year. Some of that will come from our two fundraisers in February and May, but if you are able to donate or pledge to increase your donation between now and June 30, please do! Sunrise Chapel needs your help.
Thank you for your dedication and support of Sunrise Chapel's many uses.
With love and respect,

This in NOT a photo of the church. The church is PEOPLE. Sunrise Chapel is a church only to the degree that YOU/WE make it so. Without each person involved, it would just be a lifeless shell. By serving each other
and welcoming more people to be involved, we bring the Lord's church to life.
THANK YOU for sharing your love, your friendship, your creativity and talents, your interest in spiritual growth, and your willingness to support the variety of activities that happen in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the sake of His church on earth.
Annual "Church" Meeting
Each year the legal By-Laws of the church as a non-profit corporation require us to hold an Annual Congregational Meeting with a quorum of members. This year our meeting will be Sunday, June 9 starting at 12:15 pm, during the luncheon. There are two main items of business: 1) Election of officers and
trustees and 2) Approval of the coming year's budget. There will also be a few reports on progress as well as explanations of plans for the coming year.
I hope you can participate and that you will consider it time well spent as we consider, together, how to implement the Lord's will for the growth of His church in our hearts, minds, and lives.
With love and respect,
Nathan

Arizona Mountain
Camp - July 9-14 (see details below)
|
|
This summer, our beloved family summer camp will be held at the same place as last year, 40 miles north of Globe, AZ, in the mountains just northeast of Lake Roosevelt. This camp has good creature-comforts for all ages, and it is very affordable. There will also be some
financial assistance for those who need it. We don’t want money to keep anyone away.
Check out the venue at these links:

The site is owned and managed by the Arizona Elks Lodge to benefit children. Last year was our first time there, and people loved it.
Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda Waddell and Christine Morey have once again offered to organize meal planning and preparation. Yay! There will be opportunities for worship, small groups, and plenty of down time to enjoy friendships in the peace and quiet of this lovely mountain
forest.
We expect to welcome friends from our sister church in Phoenix this year!
SCHEDULE: The first full day of camp will be Wednesday, July 10 and the final day will be Sunday, July 14. (Tuesday, July 9 will be the set-up day.)

David Prays for Help with Loneliness
Psalm 25:4-6, 16-21
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.
Look on my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
See how numerous are my enemies and how fiercely they hate me!
Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.
