What's your favorite hymn?

A unique music-oriented, lay-led service
This Sunday's service will be very special, involving many voices, literally! We'll hear from members who will each introduce one of their favorite hymns and what it means to them. Our visiting friend, Jeremy Rose, who is a musician and a lay leader at the Virginia Street Swedenborgian Church in Minnesota, along with our weekly music leader, Pablo Gonzalez, will facilitate the service (up to the point when we
have Communion/Holy Supper). There will be prayer and readings from the Word, and each person's sharing will add meaning to the songs. Children are totally welcome, and there will be a regular Sunday School activity. Toward the end of the service everyone is invited to the Holy Supper.
After the service, for the Sunday luncheon, Bill Smith will provide his delicious homemade spaghetti!
Live streaming experiments continue
Have you checked out our progress? Last Sunday's service was our second successful live stream for a Sunday service. You can view it on our You Tube channel, SunriseChapelLive. Try searching for it on You Tube, and then subscribe to receive updates. As the learning curve continues, I plan to post a link to the "upcoming event" so that, if you want, you can get a
reminder when the service is about to start. For the most part, the services will be archived on the same You Tube channel so that you can watch them later.
Our Annual Church Meeting last Sunday
Thank you to our quorum of members who showed up and participated in conducting the necessary business of our annual meeting!
And thank you to Jack Baty who was voted in as our Chairman. He has graciously consented to fill that position temporarily until another member is voted in.
And thank you to Linda Waddell who was also voted to continue her second term as Secretary.
And thank you to Alex Waddell for serving as Chairman for two full 2-year terms. He is rotating off the Board because of his terms being up.
Also, a big thank you to Bill Smith, our faithful treasurer, for the huge amount of time he spends on the daily and weekly tasks related to the church's finances. The budget that he presented for the coming fiscal year was passed, even though it shows a deficit. The intention is to increase income during the next 12 months in order to end the coming fiscal year with a balanced budget.
And finally, thank you to everyone on the Board for their work and devotion to the church.
Now is the time to make a Fiscal-Year-End Donation to Sunrise Chapel's General Fund
Please consider this.
The end of our fiscal year is Sunday, June 30. Our treasurer, Bill Smith, says that we are very close to meeting our budgeted donations. We still need about $1,500 in extra donations to end up with a balanced budget. If you have the means to help, every contribution, no matter how much, will be important!
Sunrise Chapel receives generous grants from our headquarters and from various family foundations for specific projects, but ongoing personal donations to Sunrise Chapel must cover the difference between the grants we receive and all our expenses. The General Fund needs your
financial support, especially before the end of June. Any additional donations actually will make a difference.
You can make a PayPal donation anytime from our website page: sunrisechapel.org/donate/
Feel free to speak to Bill directly or any Board member for more information.
Thank you for your dedication and support of Sunrise Chapel's many uses.
With love and respect,

The "birthday" of the New Church is typically celebrated on the 19th of June
Why? In a sense the New Church as a worldly organization started informally when a few readers of Swedenborg's writings gathered in London England in the 1790s, after Swedenborg's death. You could argue that the New Church as a movement began much earlier when Swedenborg first started publishing and distributing his works, but he didn't gather people in meetings or groups nor did he hold classes to teach
and spread the teachings he was revealing in written form.
So why do we celebrate on the 19th of June? Because of a spiritual experience Swedenborg writes about that took place that day. Like the Apostle John, Swedenborg was "in the spirit" when he witnessed the Lord Jesus Christ gathering the 12 Apostles together to send them out throughout the whole spiritual world to proclaim the good news, "The Lord God Jesus Christ reigns whose kingdom will be forever!"
It is considered the second "Great Commission" - a follow up to the original one after Easter.
You can read about this in the work True Christian Religion or the newest translation called True Christianity paragraph 791.

Arizona Mountain
Camp - July 9-14
|
|
This photo shows the patio outside the dining hall and kitchen at the Elks Youth Camp. We look forward to being there again this summer. It's a trek, 40 miles north of Globe, AZ, in the mountains just northeast of Lake Roosevelt. This camp has good creature-comforts for
all ages, and it is very affordable. There will also be some financial assistance for those who need it. We don’t want money to keep anyone away.
SCHEDULE: The first full day of camp will be Wednesday, July 10 and the final day will be Sunday, July 14. (Tuesday, July 9 will be the set-up day.)
The site is owned and managed by the Arizona Elks Lodge to benefit children. Last year was our first time there, and people loved it.
Anyone is invited to be part of the planning team. Linda Waddell and Christine Morey have once again offered to organize meal planning and preparation. Yay!
There will be opportunities for worship, small groups, and plenty of down time to enjoy friendships in the peace and quiet of this lovely mountain forest.
We expect to welcome friends from our sister church in Phoenix this year!

Come to the Lord Singing
Psalm 100
Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.
Sing with Understanding
1 Corinthians 14:15
I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.
The Inner Meaning of Singing
Apocalypse Explained §326 (Swedenborg)
"To sing a song" signifies confession from joy of heart, because joy of heart, when it is in fullness, expresses itself in song. This it does because when the heart, and in consequence the thought also, is full of joy, it pours itself forth in singing, the joy of the heart itself through the sound of the singing, and the joy of the thought therefrom through the song. The kind of joy of the thought is expressed by the words of the song, which concur and agree with the matter that is in the
thought from the heart. The kind of joy of the heart is expressed by the harmony, and the measure of this joy is expressed by the exaltation of the sound and the words in it. All these flow as if spontaneously from the joy itself, and for the reason that the whole heaven is formed according to the affections of good and truth, the highest heaven according to the affections of good, and the middle heaven according to the affections of truth. It is therefore formed also for joys, for every joy is
from an affection, or from love. From this it is that in all angelic discourse there is a kind of harmony.
