The joy of losing something and finding something else
In part 4 of this series on Finding Joy, let's explore the balance of gaining something when we lose something. Last year when I lost my balance and fell off my bicycle, I also lost mobility in the form of a broken wrist. Everything that I normally did with two hands or two arms became a huge chore. But I also gained valuable
insights that I wouldn't have attempted to learn otherwise. Granted, it was an expensive learning experience, but the more I focused on the joy of recovery and getting back on the bike, the better I could handle the accident and all the inconveniences of the healing process.
What experience of loss have you had that has led you to a new sense of joy?
This series: The word "joy" seems like a pretty exceptional experience, but the Lord clearly says he wants us to experience it fully - which I take to mean all the time. A tall goal, for sure. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." John

Arizona Spiritual Growth Foundation Board Meeting - This Sunday at 12:30 pm
Thanks to Kelly Woofenden, the current leader of this Foundation, we are continuing to work on activities to promote this important program. Join us this Sunday after the luncheon to consider such things as hosting meetings to introduce the Spiritual Growth Group program to local clergy, producing a new book of essays about spiritual growth tasks, and the possibilities of printing more decks of task cards. We'll meet in the church library.
NEW! Bible Study - This Wednesday at 3 pm
I eagerly invite you to join me in a mid-week Bible study in the front office of Sunrise Chapel at 3 pm this coming Wednesday, August 7. If this time of day doesn't work for you, but you want to participate, let me know. I am flexible with the time.
I will be using the resource of SpiritandLifeBibleStudy.com as a basis for these sessions, since I personally get a lot out of them. If you don't know your Bible very well, this is a great place to start. If you do know your Bible, Jonathan and our group interaction may surprise you with new information and insights.
Come and be part of a fresh start to seek a deep appreciation for the most important book in the world.

A new large screen TV monitor for lyrics and slides
Thank you to the Glencairn Foundation for the funds to purchase a new 75" TV/monitor for our chapel. It replaces the aging and temperamental ceiling projector and provides a much sharper, more beautiful image. Thanks also to Ken Lee for help with installing it and to Bob Youens for learning some new things about operating the slide shows each Sunday.
With love and respect,
