Finding Joy... sometimes in unexpected ways
Did my topic for last week catch your attention? "Finding joy in judging others?" I certainly hope so. And I hope you realize that if you or I find joy in negatively judging others, that's not a good sign! The only kind of joy I'm endorsing is from good and wise judgment. Anything else would be misjudgment or worse. As I emphasized on Sunday, we are constantly judging ourselves and others consciously or
unconsciously. The question is whether we are using spiritual discernment or not? From the perspective of your best angelic self, let's use good judgment in evaluating and supporting each other.
For this Sunday, I'm going to continue this series on Finding Joy and consider that the best kind of joy comes from the inside out. Of course not everything that comes from the inside is joyful, so finding the joy is a process that involves careful sorting and selecting.
Holy Supper -- Communion -- This Sunday, September 1st
This will be our next regular time to celebrate the sacrament of the Holy Supper together. We are getting back to our schedule of the first Sunday of every other month. So the next Communion Sunday after this will be November 3rd.
This ongoing sermon series
The word "joy" seems like a pretty exceptional experience, but the Lord clearly says he wants us to experience it fully - which I take to mean all the time. A tall goal, for sure. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." John 15:11
