It takes just the right stress for a guitar to sound great
Stress is a normal part of life. You can't play music without stress. Tendons throughout our body need just the right amount of stress for various activities. What would a football game or adventure movie be without a little stress?
When it's good, we don't typically call it stress. Other descriptors might be energized, focused, tuned in, or eustress.
But too much stress, and stuff can go haywire.
When it's bad we tend to use descriptive words like tension, being wound up, keyed up, up tight, or distressed.
This Sunday, let's explore the how we can turn stressing into blessing.
Next Sunday Nov. 17 - Special Guest and Semi-Annual meeting
Please read below about a long-anticipated visit from the Executive Director of our denomination, David Frazier. He is coming to meet with Board members about finances, and he will also be attending our church service on Sunday and participating in our luncheon and Semi-Annual meeting.
"Thanksgiving Sunday" is Nov. 24!
Our annual Thanksgiving church service, followed by a luncheon extravaganza is coming up! If you are planning to participate in the luncheon and would like to share a dish, please tell one of the ladies in the Kitchen Ministry.
Spiritual Growth Groups - Sundays and Wednesdays
I'm very grateful to Kelly Woofenden and Frank Rose for leading spiritual growth groups on Sunday mornings at 9:15 and Wednesday nights at 6:30. You are welcome to join either of these groups at any time.
Continuing: "Sunrise Chapel 101" aka New Church Foundations Small Group
We are continuing to meet on Wednesdays at 2 pm for the next two weeks. This Wednesday's topic is "Serving Others". After that we'll take up the topic of "Church History and Sunrise Chapel Today." Anyone interested in these topics is welcome to join the meeting. We meet in the small group room off the Chapel lobby.
Coming Soon! Our Annual Path to Bethlehem Live Nativity
We are gearing up for our beloved Christmas greeting to the community on the first Saturday of December from 6 to 8 pm. This year it's on December 7. Please talk with me or Elise if you are willing and able to play a part in this big, beautiful, multi-dimensional event.
With love and respect,

ANNOUNCING:
Special Church Meeting & Special Guest - November 17
|
Our Semi-annual Sunrise Chapel meeting for all members and friends will be held on Sunday, November 17 during the luncheon. We are required by our Corporate By-Laws to have two such meetings a year, and our semi-annual meeting is held in the Fall.
Special Guest - David Frazier
I am happy to welcome Mr. David Frazier, a key administrator from our denominational headquarters in Bryn Athyn, PA. His title is Executive Director. We have revised his meeting schedule. He will attend our church service and our semi-annual meeting on Sunday, Nov. 17 so that he can get to know us and we can get to know him. Then he will meet with our local Board of
Directors on Sunday after the semi-annual meeting. Would you like to meet with him one-on-one? Please contact me or David directly to set up an appointment.

This is a big opportunity for us to share our appreciation for the generosity of our headquarters for the financial support they have provided over the years. It is also a chance to work collaboratively towards financial sustainability.
Please help welcome him with your presence at the church service on Sunday, Nov. 17 and the meeting during our luncheon. ~ Nathan

Thank you to our volunteers in the sound booth every Sunday for helping make our livestream happen. We are finding that it is a long learning curve to get all the sound levels tuned, so thank you for your patience. And please give me input based on your listening experience.
If you subscribe to our YouTube channel, you can get an alert when we go live on Sunday morning. If you bookmark the link in your favorite browser, you can also easily view any available archived service anytime.
There is really no substitute for worshiping together in person with all the nuances of community, personal connection, and interaction, but modern technology does provide a great window into the experience.

Thank you to a generous grant from the Asplundh Foundation!
Work started yesterday (Thursday) on resealing the paved sections of the Sunrise Chapel parking lot. The parking spaces will be repainted Saturday morning!
THANK YOU TO EAGLE ROCK EXCAVATING and Kevin Morey for providing excellent service.
CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SUPPORT: The original funding granted for this job is less than the actual amount we will owe on completion. If you are able to make a special additional donation to Sunrise Chapel for this job, please speak with our treasurer, Bill Smith.
Thankfully, in the past week we have received additional donations for a total so far of $425!
FYI, the difference we need is about $3,000

A Prayer During Stress
Jonah 2:1-9
From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said:
“In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’
The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.
To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit.
“When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
“Those who cling to worthless idols
turn away from God’s love for them.
But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”
Philippians 4:6-8
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate
on these things.”
Secrets of Heaven §2892 Swedenborg
The state of those who lead a good life and who believe that the Lord governs the universe, and alone is the source of everything good that flows from love and charity, and of everything true that is a matter of faith, and indeed is the source of all life — thus the state of those who believe that 'in the Lord we live, and move, and have our being' — is such that they can have heavenly freedom conferred on them, and with that freedom peace as well. For they trust solely in the Lord and have no
anxious cares about all else; they are quite sure that all things work for their good, blessedness, and happiness forever.
But those who believe that they govern themselves are constantly agitated, being carried along into evil desires, into anxious cares about things of the future, and thus into a vast number of anxieties.
