This Sunday, a look at the ins and outs of hope
I don't know about you, but rainbows often give me a little feeling of hope. When we lived in Pittsburgh, PA, our family would often have rainbow alerts. They usually occurred during the middle of our supper, sometimes interrupting the eating process and leaving warm food on plates as we scurried to get a view of the fleeting wonder of nature. We knew we didn't have much time, since the weather
conditions change so quickly, but it was always satisfying when we were rewarded.
What are the conditions for the wonder of hope? It's interesting that hope often comes and goes, like rainbows. It's also telling that sometimes the most brilliant rainbows are at dusk and against the darkest clouds. We concentrate on hope especially when we are experiencing inner turbulence and dark states.
What are you hoping for? There are so many things, some healthy, others not so much. Hoping can be altruistic or it can be very selfish. Let's explore this a bit more and ask what the Lord's perspective could be.
Livestream and archives
I am continuing to hone our sound and video system with the help of our volunteers in the sound booth as well as occasional meetings during the week with a professional sound engineer. Thank you for your patience.
Like & Subscribe! If you subscribe to our YouTube channel, you can get an alert when we go live on Sunday morning. If you bookmark the link in your favorite browser, you can also easily view any available archived service anytime.
Alternatively, click on the big blue button below: "Livestream Sunrise Chapel" where you can choose from other archived services. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing it. We are still learning and ironing out the wrinkles.
There is really no perfect substitute for worshiping together in person with all the nuances of community, personal connection, and interaction, but modern technology does provide a great window into the experience.
This Tuesday at 6:30 pm - Intro to Choose Joy Now and Spiritual Growth Groups
We are looking forward to this special event in Friendship Hall! Please scroll down for more details.

We had a great start last Wednesday for this very interesting set of small group meetings on the basic teachings and history of our church! Thank you to everyone for your participation, questions, and sharing. I am looking forward to our Wednesday meetings.
I am happy to welcome additional people to the group for any topic, especially folks who have attended in the past who might have missed a particular topic the last time around.
We have run out of paper copies of the textbook, but all the information is available as a set of daily emails. Just use the link here to subscribe:
http://journey.newchurch.org/programs/foundations/daily-email-sign-up/
If you want to read ahead for the next meeting, we will be talking about chapter 2 – Honoring the Lord’s Presence – on Oct. 16 @ 2 pm.
Feel free to invite a friend.
Even if you have been involved before, it's worth another round since there is so much to learn.
Next Sunday, Oct 20 at 2:30 pm - Concert at Sunrise Chapel
See below for more information about this. Eduardo reserves Sunrise Chapel as his Tucson concert location, though he plays at various local restaurants and other events. I am looking forward to this event and invite you to come and bring family and friends. It is also a fundraiser for the church. Please scroll down for more details.

The Lord knows each of us by name
Hearing one's name spoken in friendship is music to the ears. It is a sign of wanting to connect. It doesn't get old or worn out. It's a real gift.
In Isaiah 43, the Lord says, "I have called you by name." And in John 10, the Lord refers to Himself as a shepherd who knows every sheep by name. Since the Lord want us to love others like He loves us, I think this is strong encouragement for each of us to do our best to learn each others' names.
Thank you to 2 people interested in helping with the name tag ministry
Two people have volunteered to help revive the use of name tags, especially during the luncheon time to help us all get to know each other better. However, we have lost track of the name tags that used to be stored in a closet in Friendship Hall! The last time they were used was at the big fundraiser last February at La Mariposa. If you know where they are, please let us know!
Stay tuned as we figure out the supplies and a routine for regularly offering this useful service. ~Nathan and Elise

Genesis 9:12-17
And God said to Noah and his sons, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to
destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
Psalm 33:18-22
The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you
Secrets of Heaven 2338 (Emanuel Swedenborg)
Temptations involve feelings of doubt regarding the Lord's presence and mercy, and also regarding His salvation. The evil spirits who are present with people at such times and who are the cause of temptation do all they can to infuse a negative outlook, but good spirits and angels from the Lord in every way disperse that doubting attitude, all the time preserving a feeling of hope and in the end strengthening an affirmative outlook.
Secrets of Heaven 2694
"Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the child where he is." This signifies the hope of help. This is evident from the signification of "fear not," as being not to despair; for when fear is taken away, hope is present.
