God, grant me patience: the sooner the better!
It seems like patience ought to be a simple matter. I either have it or I don't. But then when I lose my patience, or when my patience is "tried," getting it back can feel complex. And why do I call it "my" patience, anyway? As if it's something that I create or manage? So, does it come from the Lord? Is the Lord patient? And does the Lord ever lose patience with us fallible
humans?
I can hardly wait to explore this together this Sunday!
This Sunday, Oct 20 at 2:30 pm - Fine Guitar Concert at Sunrise Chapel
See below for more information about this. Eduardo reserves Sunrise Chapel as his Tucson concert location, though he plays at various local restaurants and other events. I am looking forward to this event and invite you to come and bring family and friends. It is also a fundraiser for the church. Please scroll down for more details.
Livestream and archives
I am continuing to hone our sound and video system with the help of our volunteers in the sound booth as well as occasional meetings during the week with a professional sound engineer. Thank you for your patience.

There is really no perfect substitute for worshiping together in person with all the nuances of community, personal connection, and interaction, but modern technology does provide a great window into the experience.
Last Tuesday's Intro to Choose Joy Now and Spiritual Growth Groups
Thirty people came to this special event in Friendship Hall! About 2/3 of the participants have been in groups in the past, but for about 1/3 of the group, this was an introduction. Frank and Louise Rose educated and entertained us with an historical overview of how the program got its start. And we heard various glowing testimonials from people who have benefited from working on the tasks over the years and connecting with each other in the small group
setting.
Thank you to everyone for your loving, thoughtful help in putting this special event on. We look forward to doing it again and broadening our reach to welcome more people to choose the joy of working on spiritual growth.
Join a Small Group for Spiritual Growth!
Consider joining one of our small groups to focus together on one spiritual growth task per week. Each task can help you deal with some of your challenges and turn them into opportunities for experiencing heavenly joy!
There is beauty and power in sharing this precious work in a safe small group.
Wednesdays at 6:30 pm, led by Frank Rose in the Chapel
Sundays at 9:15 am, led by Kelly Woofenden in the Library
Mondays at 1:00 pm, led by Nathan Gladish in the Chapel
Enjoying "Sunrise Chapel 101" aka New Church Foundations Small Group
So far we have had two meetings for this very interesting set of discussions on the basic teachings and history of our church! Thank you to everyone for your participation, questions, and sharing. I look forward to our time together!
I am also happy to welcome additional people to the group for any topic, especially folks who have attended in the past who might have missed a particular topic the last time around.
We have more paper copies of the textbook on order, but all the information is available as a set of daily emails. Just use the link here to subscribe:

If you want to read ahead for the next meeting, we will be talking about chapter 3 – Seeking Guidance from God's Word – on Oct. 23 @ 2 pm.
Even if you have been involved before, it's worth another round since there is so much to learn.
With love and respect,

Psalm 37:4-8
Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the one who brings wicked schemes to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret—it only causes harm.
A Parable of Impatience and Patience
Luke 8:11-15
After Jesus told the parable of the sower, He then explained it saying, “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when
they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
James 5:7-11
Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
Apocalypse Explained 813
“To bear fruit with patience” signifies to do what is true and good even when living amid falsities and evils, that is, among those who are in falsities and evils.
