The Second Sunday of Advent - Peace

Innocence and Vulnerability - part 2
The Lord came into the world as innocent and vulnerable as each one of us. He wanted and needed to do this so that we could relate to Him and feel connected. God became human and then went through the extraordinary process of becoming God. Christmas is a time to celebrate the beginning of that process, with all the insecurities that Mary and Joseph faced while caring for Jesus. This Sunday, we'll continue
exploring the Lord's vulnerable love and how we can foster such love in our own daily lives.
The Path to Bethlehem is this Saturday!
See below for more details. This will be our 15th Path! Amazing! Thank you to everyone for helping us give this beautiful, heartwarming Christmas gift to our community!
Christmas Daily Readings Available
Each year the pastors of the Glenview New Church in Chicagoland put together a collection of Christmas Readings around a different theme. They are very thoughtful, educational, and inspiring.
If you want a printed booklet of these readings, let me know and I will happily provide it.
To receive the readings via daily e-mail, go to newchurch.org and click on the green Christmas Readings button on the home page. Or click here
You will be subscribed from year to year. You may unsubscribe at any time.

A Prophecy of the Lord’s Coming
Isaiah 25:1,9
Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago.
In that day they will say,
“Surely this is our God;
we trusted in him, and he saved us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him;
let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
Childhood Innocence
Mark 10:14, 15, 16
Jesus said, “Allow the little children to come to me and do not stop them. These are the kind who make up God’s kingdom. Truly, I say to you: anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it.” So taking them up into the curve of his arms, he put his hands on them and blessed them.
Our Original Blessing of Innocence
Secrets of Heaven §1050 Swedenborg (NCE)
Not one of us can live—still less live as a human being—if we do not have something living inside us. In other words, we need to have a measure of innocence, charity, and mercy. This is something we receive from the Lord in childhood and adolescence. What we receive at those ages is preserved in us.
These are virtues that we absorb from early childhood on; if those states were not present inside us, we would be much lower than animals. But they are not acquired by education. We receive them as gifts from the Lord, who preserves them in us.
These states are the starting points of the process of being reborn.

Worship Services

Thank you to our volunteers in the sound booth every Sunday for helping make our livestream happen. We are finding that it is a long learning curve to get all the sound levels tuned, so thank you for your patience. And please give me input based on your listening experience.
If you subscribe to our YouTube channel, you can get an alert when we go live on Sunday morning. If you bookmark the link in your favorite browser, you can also easily view any available archived service anytime.
There is really no substitute for worshiping together in person with all the nuances of community, personal connection, and interaction, but modern technology does provide a great window into the experience.
