It's been such a special Christmas season!
Thank you to everyone for your participation in making this Christmas so special - the excellent success of the Path to Bethlehem, the church services including the "Favorite Hymn Sing", the beautiful decorations throughout the buildings (and outside, too!), all those homemade and donated cookies, and the beautiful Christmas Eve and Day services! It's been a delight to collaborate in the spirit of
the qualities we've invoked each Sunday - HOPE, PEACE, LOVE, and JOY.
Christmas Eve we had a combined total of 84 people at the two worship services, and another 24 people attended the living room Christmas Day service at the home of Frank and Louise Rose.
This Sunday, December 29 - Guest Pastor
Frank Rose will lead the regular, 11 AM church service on the topic of darkness and light. Christmas candles lighten the long, dark nights this time of year. This is a time to reflect on darkness and light, both physical and spiritual
Thank you to our Pastor Emeritus for offering to conduct the church service while Elise and I are taking a little break to be with family.
Can't attend in person? Try watching online. Scroll all the way down in this message for a link to our You Tube channel and our livestream link or search You Tube for "Sunrise Chapel Live". If all goes well, the service goes live a few minutes before 11 am. Then the archive version is automatically available at the same link soon after the
service ends.
Christmas Decorations in Memory of Loved Ones
Thank you to everyone who donated towards the lovely decorations gracing our chancel this season - several trees and a "bouquet" of poinsettias. They shout "Merry Christmas!"
And thank you to the ladies who decorated Friendship Hall for the Christmas season! Such a festive atmosphere to welcome our guests at the Path to Bethlehem and to enhance all our activities throughout December!
Ring in the New Year with Holy Supper - January 5, 2020
Start the New Year with a reflective opportunity to think about your overall spiritual life, where you have come so far, and what you want to accomplish in the coming months. The focus of this first church service of the new year will be on how small habit changes can make a big difference.
With prayers for blessings this New Year,

A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE YOUR DONATION DOUBLED!
|
Great News! Since December 7, when a generous remote supporter of Sunrise Chapel became aware of our year-end financial challenge, local donations have been adding up towards the matching offer of $4,000!
This is really wonderful! With your local help, this match will help us meet our year-end financial goal. And anything over the goal will go towards meeting the fiscal year-end need on June 30.
The donor's wish is that "as many people as possible invest in the success of Sunrise Chapel's efforts." Your donation to the operating fund, small or large, will be important in meeting our obligations.
Want to donate with a credit card or electronically? Our treasurer, Bill Smith, can now swipe credit cards in the church office, or you can go to the Donate page on sunrisechapel.org or go directly to the church's PayPal account .
Thank you for supporting Sunrise Chapel.

Readings for this Sunday's 11 am
Worship Service
|
Genesis 1:1-5
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 12:35, 36
Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
Divine Providence #318:5
Everything false is in darkness and everything true is in the light. We cannot see anything in darkness, so we do not know what anything is unless we feel it. It is different in the light. That is why falsities are called “darkness” in the Word, and why it describes people who believe falsities as walking in darkness and the shadow of death. By the same token, truths are called “light” in the Word, so it describes people who believe truths as walking in the
light, and as “children of light.”

Thank you to our volunteers in the sound booth every Sunday for helping make our livestream happen. We are finding that it is a long learning curve to get all the sound levels tuned, so thank you for your patience. And please give me input based on your listening experience.
If you subscribe to our YouTube channel, you can get an alert when we go live on Sunday morning. If you bookmark the link in your favorite browser, you can also easily view any available archived service anytime.
There is really no substitute for worshiping together in person with all the nuances of community, personal connection, and interaction, but modern technology does provide a great window into the experience. ~ Nathan
