Preparing for Easter

What do you know about Lent? Have you ever given something up for Lent? People often think of Lent as a Catholic or Anglican thing because those are some of the churches that observe Lent. As a congregation at Sunrise Chapel, we haven't given it much attention. But could it be a real addition to our spiritual practice to give up something for the period leading up to Easter? Come on Sunday and we’ll talk about it.

Small Groups: final meetings this week for the Gideon series

This SUNDAY: 9:15 am Sunday in the church Library, led by Kelly Woofenden

This THURSDAY AFTERNOON: We have switched from Wednesday to Thursday afternoons at 1:00 pm for the final session. Led by Nathan Gladish

Planning Fundraisers - this Sunday after the luncheon

We are continuing to plan for the upcoming event on Saturday, March 28 - SUNRISE MARKETPLACE Thank you to Linda and Margo for focusing our energy toward an achievable goal. Scroll down for more information. Join again this Sunday, Mar. 1 in the church library after the luncheon to continue to brainstorm and plan for this event.

Renovating the Bride's Room and Women's Bathroom (off Friendship Hall)

This project is concluding soon! These two rooms are getting repaired and updated after an insurance claim because of water damage from a leaky water pipe over a year ago. Thank you to Mike Villeburn for overseeing this project and making sure it gets done!

PLANNING THIS FUNDRAISER FOR SATURDAY MARCH 28

Before we open this to the public, here are ways you can support and participate in this event:

PATIO SALE & CRAFT SALE OPTIONS:

By this Sunday, March 1, please contact Linda Waddell 575-740-0140 if you want to reserve a space to sell your stuff (and keep your proceeds) during this event.

Or, if you prefer, donate your stuff to the church for the patio sale.

"Rent a table" inside for $15 each table

"Rent a table" outside for $10 each table

"Rent a vehicle space" to sell from your car "trunk" for $5 each vehicle

After this Sunday March 1st, table and vehicle spaces will be offered to the public. Table set-up will be Friday, March 27.

WANTED: ITEMS FOR THE SILENT AUCTION:

Consider donating an item or a service to our silent auction. Be creative! Think about what the public might be interested in.

Or stop in at a local business to invite the manager to donate an item, even a gift card!

Small Group Series concludes

Thank you to the leaders and everyone who participated in the "Growing Through Challenges"
This has been another interesting dive into the study of a story in the Bible and its spiritual meaning in our everyday lives. Each week focused on an aspect of Gideon's challenge to prepare himself and his men to confront their enemies. Similarly, each topic encouraged us to prepare ourselves to invite the Lord to help us address challenges in our spiritual lives.

Our Awesome Groups

Thank you to Kelly Woofenden for leading on Sunday mornings at 9:15 in the church Library. Average attendance 6 people.

I led the mid-week afternoon group (Wednesday, then Thursday) in the church Vestry (off the lobby of the Chapel) including one participant online. Average attendance 6 people. ~Nathan

Thank you to Elise Gladish for leading the Women's Group on Thursday nights at 7:00 in various homes. Average attendance 12 people.

Temptations, or crises of the spirit, help goodness in us gain control over evil and truth gain control over falsity. They help reinforce truths and join them to goodness and at the same time shatter evils and the falsities that arise from them. They also serve to open our inner, spiritual self and bring our earthly self under its control, break up our love for ourselves and for the world, and tame the cravings that arise from them. Once this has been done, we come into enlightenment and gain a perception of what is true and what is good, and of what is false and what is evil. This gives us intelligence and wisdom, which then keep growing day by day.
