Help welcome Jeremy Rose as our guest preacher this Sunday
Jeremy Rose will be visiting his parents, Frank and Louise Rose, this weekend and kindly offered to preach at Sunrise Chapel. He lives in St Paul, MN where he is a member of the Virginia Street Church (Swedenborgian) as well as a musician for their services and also an occasional lay preacher. His day job is on the teaching staff at the University of Minnesota. With a Ph.D. in Communication Studies, decades of teaching experience, and a special interest in communicating the
message of the New Church, he co-authored a book about preaching with his father. His talk this Sunday will be about the balance between self-compulsion and accountability to others.

Friday, March 13 at 6:30 pm at Sunrise Chapel
The New "Grand Human Project" is about community building
Even if you feel plugged into a spiritual community, you might have a friend, a cousin, a family member who would just love to learn about this new way of connecting online.
So, help welcome Michelle Chapin Friday, March 13 at 6:30 at Sunrise Chapel. She will lead a discussion about community-building in connection with this new online platform.
Michelle is one of the team members from our Central Office of Outreach in Bryn Athyn, PA. She has been helping develop this new online resource to gather people who are interested in spiritual growth, community, and service. She will also be helping at the ChooseJoyNow.org booth at the Tucson Festival of Books.
Meet & greet Michelle this Friday, March 13 at Sunrise Chapel at 6:30 pm. Be prepared to be impressed with this new online platform, and consider becoming one of the early adopters and promoters of this important offering!

From the Bible
Exodus 20:18-24 (NIV)
When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.”
Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”
The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.
“‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.”
Matthew 23:1-4,25-26 (NIV)
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.”
From the Teachings of the New Church through Emanuel Swedenborg
Divine Providence §136(3)
What is inside us resists compulsion from the outside so definitely that it turns the other way. This is because our inner nature wants to be in freedom and loves its freedom. Freedom is a matter of our love or our life; so when something free feels that it is being controlled, it withdraws into itself, so to speak, and turns in the opposite direction. It looks at the compulsion as an enemy. The love that is the substance of our life is irritated, which makes us think that we are not in control
of ourselves and that we are therefore not living our own life.
The reason our inner nature is like this is found in the law of the Lord’s divine providence that says we should act in freedom and in accord with reason.
