Changes to our schedule and our routines as we respond to the COVID-19 challenge
|
|
How do we - all of us Sunrise Chapel folks - respond to COVID-19?
The short answer - we respond as usual with thoughtfulness, careful attention to detail, and gratitude for the opportunities to continue to serve people in healthy, respectful, and loving ways.
In no way do I want to minimize the challenges that this international health crisis poses. At the same time, I do want us to continue serving as best we can, including meeting for church services, Sunday luncheons, and small groups as long as we can maintain healthy standards of operating. This includes following common suggestions such as these:
- At the risk of stating the obvious, if you feel sick or are not completely well, take care of yourself, but please don't share your condition in a group setting. Stay home. Consider watching our Sunday church service online. Join an online small group. Stay connected electronically so you can reconnect in person as soon as possible.
- In gatherings, practice appropriate "social distancing" by not shaking hands or hugging especially anyone who might be more at risk.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching your face, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues. Then throw away the tissue and wash your hands.
There are a lot of other useful, common sense tips and information available on the CDC website. It pays to be informed.
Thank you for working together for the common good throughout this challenge, and may the Lord bring good from our efforts!
With love and respect and prayers,

Because of the cancellation of the Tucson Festival of Books, Michelle Chapin will not be coming to Tucson this Friday, March 13
Sadly, we decided to cancel our in-person promotion of this new online service for small groups. Once we figure out an alternate way of introducing this to all y'all, I will let you know.

CANCELLED: The Tucson Festival of Books

Photo: Booths from March 2019
On Monday, the Tucson Festival of Books was cancelled!
This is a big deal, of course! Kelly and I as well as the rest of the choosejoynow.org team are sad that we will not be able to interact with everyone at the booth as we had hoped.
However, we do still plan to hold several new small groups: See below for details

NOT CANCELLED: Welcome Jonathan Rose, co-host of offTheLeftEye

We are hoping to stay on-schedule with this event.
offTheLeftEye is a YouTube channel devoted to spreading the teachings of Swedenborg
Come to Sunrise Chapel on Saturday, March 21 from 3-5 pm to welcome the co-host of this popular YouTube educational show, Jonathan Rose, as well as Tim Bilger from the staff. They will share some stories of the development and impact of this production, and Jonathan will also give an update on the progress of the New Century Edition of the translations of Swedenborg's works, of which he
is the series editor.
But most of all, this event is designed to bring people together who want to meet others who are interested in the show and in studying Swedenborg.
This event is being promoted widely, with guests coming from Tucson, Phoenix, Boulder CO, and Silver City, NM.

AWESOME NEW GROUPS ABOUT TO START
Although we will not be promoting new spiritual growth groups at the Tucson Festival of Books, we will attempt to start several new small groups.
Starting Wednesday March 25 at 1 pm, I will lead a mid-week Wednesday afternoon group in the church Vestry (off the lobby of the Chapel) including the option to join online through Zoom videoconferencing. The theme for this group will be the first 12 tasks in the original book, The Joy of Spiritual Growth.
Starting Wednesday March 25 at 6:30 pm, Frank Rose and Judith Keane will lead an 8-week Wednesday evening group in the church Vestry. The theme for this group will be Forgiveness.
If there is interest, Kelly Woofenden will lead a Sunday morning group in the church Library using the newly revised card deck of 52 Tasks for Spiritual Growth.
Please contact Kelly.
