So nice to "see" everyone on our livestream on Easter!
First of all, some thank you notes...
It is indeed strange to preach to the "empty church", but it is so much easier knowing that you all are participating from the shelter of your homes. Thank you for tuning in and supporting this effort. When you are watching, feel free to use the YouTube chat function to say hello. I am hoping to have a volunteer "moderator" in the chat feature this Sunday. Feel free to chime in. Although I can't participate live,
I enjoy seeing your comments afterwards!
I'm glad for the technology that allows us to connect in the familiarity of our Chapel. And I'm continuing to try to make the experience personal and interactive with the use of our new camera. Thanks to Dave Synnestvedt for being in the sound booth the past few Sundays and getting used to operating the new equipment. And thanks to another Dave, my IT support volunteer. This Sunday, because of his help, I hope to
incorporate video into the presentation. It's all a big learning curve.
Thank you also to Frank and Louise Rose with whom I consulted on the chancel decorations for last Sunday. Last year Frank created the "tomb" prop that I repurposed this year by putting it in the bay window behind our real rock. Over the phone, Louise and I discussed options about placement and other decorations. It was fun to think of the Lord "appearing" from the empty tomb, and the bright light of the sun on the
Word really dramatized that.
See below for the You Tube link or click here. You can also find it easily on the home page of our website sunrisechapel.org
Also, if you subscribe to the You Tube channel and turn on notifications for the channel, you should automatically get an alert when the service goes live. (In order to subscribe and get notifications, just sign up for a free account with You Tube.)
After church, Zoom with me at Noon this Sunday
I will do another Zoom call at noon for anyone who wants to hop on and check in. It's casual and a nice follow-up to the worship service. Here are the instructions:
AFTER the service ends, we will take a little break. Get a snack, if you want.
Then at NOON, join the Zoom meeting with either the link or the phone-in instructions below.
To join the Zoom meeting, click on this link at NOON:
https://zoom.us/j/414341900
If you need the Meeting ID, it is: 414 341 900
If you ONLY want to call in (without your computer or video), use one of these phone numbers and follow the prompts. You will have to enter the Meeting ID. You will be able to listen and talk (but you won’t see anyone and no one will see you).
+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)
+1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)
Meeting ID: 414 341 900
A note about managing Zoom security
For the sake of security, last week I added a "waiting room" feature to our Zoom call. When you join the meeting, you will enter this "waiting room" until I as the leader "let you in". Also, as the meeting manager, I can block or turn off video or audio if necessary.

This Sunday's Story from the Word

This Sunday, let's "go for a walk" with the Lord
One of my favorite stories of the New Testament is of Jesus on a walk with two disciples after His resurrection. It's so personal and down-to-earth. I can so identify with these two confused disciples "as they walk and are sad." The quote that I'll especially focus on is variously rendered, but I love the feeling evoked by the New Living Bible's version: Jesus said, "You seem to be in a deep discussion about
something. What are you so concerned about?"
If you want to read and reflect ahead of time, get out your favorite translation of the Bible and turn to Luke 24:13-35 (or see below for the New International Version).
And I'd LOVE to hear how this story touches YOU! When have YOU been on a walk and "discovered" that the Lord was with you all along? Send me an email or text with your thoughts.

Care Calls - Phone a Friend!
It is so heartwarming to hear from a variety of people how much it means to be talking on the phone these days. For those initiating phone calls, they say it is so helpful just to reach out and check in. For those who are receiving them, I hear over and over how grateful they are.
Thank you to a number of people who have organically grown our Care Team and who are taking time to stay in touch.
There's nothing like having a good, old-fashioned friendly phone call. I encourage you to keep it up. If you need new contact information for someone, let me know, and I'll do my best to provide it.
Also, I'm still getting more updates for the Sunrise Chapel phone directory
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but there are quite a few updates to our printed directory, since it is over 10 months old. I'll be sending it out by email and by USPS as soon as I get any additional input from anyone whose contact information needs updating. Please let me know ASAP. You can email or text or call me with any updates or preferences.

New Spiritual Growth Group on Zoom!
Dear Friends,
We can lighten this time of enforced isolation by having another Spiritual Growth Group. Judith Keane and I originally planned one beginning in the middle of March this year, but the pandemic had other ideas. Recently I have been working on the text of the course, and then it dawned on me that we can offer this as an internet event. This is our invitation:
We would love you to sign up for an eight-week Spiritual Growth Group on “Forgiveness.”
To be held in the comfort of your home, eight Wednesday evenings 6:30 to
7:30 or 8 pm, starting on April 22nd, 2020.
Limit of 10 participants (plus Frank and Judith as leaders).
We will be using the Zoom format. If you sign up, our technical man, Jeremy Rose, will help you to figure it out.
To sign up, send an e-mail to fuzrose@sunrisechapel.org or phone me at 520-721-1091.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
love
Frank

New Testament Story for this Sunday
On the Road to Emmaus
Luke 24:13-35 (New International Version)
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 “What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that
they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
