Highlighting a Joy of Motherhood
|
|
|
There are plenty of challenges with mothering, but this Sunday is an opportunity to highlight some of the joys
Who doesn't have very vivid memories of their own mothering or mothers in their lives? These memories can be wonderful and nurturing, or they could bring up discomfort and sadness. This Sunday, we won't pretend to have perfect relationships with motherhood. However, let's explore how the Lord would have us lift up the goodness and the wisdom in our moms and
in mothering.
Come this Sunday - in person or online - to hear from the Word and several testimonies from different friends of Sunrise Chapel about moms. It will also be a time for each of us to pray for mothers in our lives wherever they are and to thank them for their noble work.

CHURCH IS OPEN! with appropriate precautions
I'm very happy to see more folks feeling comfortable to come back to in-person attendance. We have had about two dozen people in the Chapel four Sundays in a row. It's so good to see you!
PRECAUTIONS: Please "don't shoot the messenger," but I feel the need to remind everyone that the Pima County Board of Supervisors mandates are still in effect for mask wearing and social distancing in public spaces.
"Notwithstanding the Governor’s action, the Pima County resolution 2020-96 passed by the Board of Supervisors Dec. 4 is still in effect. Face coverings must be worn at all times when in public or when less than 6 feet from individuals not in the same household."
EXCEPTIONS
There are, of course, exceptions to the mask-wearing mandate. For example, I don't wear a mask when I'm preaching because I'm at least 10 feet away from anyone else, but I put it on for social time.
It's up to you to decide when the time is right to return to in-person participation. I certainly welcome you if you feel comfortable! In the meantime, please continue to participate as much as possible either in-person or online!

UPDATE ON PASTORAL TRANSITIONS
At this point - and things can change - the McCardells have airline tickets to arrive in Tucson (from London) on Wednesday, June 30. If they have to self-quarantine because of international travel, they won't be in church on July 4, but time will tell. We hope to have an installation service on Sunday July 11.
If you want to reach out by email to the McCardells, here are their addresses:
Elise and I are still formulating plans about when we will leave for Philadelphia. It depends on a variety of things including the sale of our home here in Tucson. We will keep you informed! And please stay connected in this time of transition.
"UR" the heart of the chURch!
Thank you for reading, and thank you for your care and concern, and I hope to see you soon!
With love and respect and anticipation,
Nathan

Farewell to two more dear friends of Sunrise Chapel
|
|
|
Last Saturday and Sunday, we had two more dear friends transition to the fullness of their spiritual lives. I miss them both so much already.
Elizabeth Stember, a strong member of the Women's Group who became active with Sunrise Chapel a few years ago died on Saturday night, May 1st after over a year of heroic efforts to overcome health challenges. She has been such a model of living and loving through every battle. A celebration of life is being planned at Sunrise Chapel on Saturday, June 5. Time
and other details still to be determined.
Nenah Moeller joined the Sunrise Chapel choir in the 90s and has stayed devoted through the years. She often said how important Sunrise Chapel was to her, and that it really changed her life for the better. A stroke several months ago suddenly took away a lot of her mobility. She was moved from her apartment into a facility for more intensive care
and then into the services of a hospice. After a gradual decline, she finally breathed her last on Sunday night, May 2nd. And I have no doubt that she is already singing in her heavenly choir! No formal memorial service is being planned by her family in Tucson, but we are thinking of scheduling an informal time for sharing about our love for her and several others who have passed recently, a time that would be open to anyone.
I will share more information as plans develop.

We are experimenting with a new feature, allowing us to "embed" the upcoming livestream onto our website. It will enable you to watch the service on sunrisechapel.org on the Worship > Livestream page.
Try it! And please let me know how it goes. If you like it, share it! If you see needs for corrections or additions, let me know!

World Labyrinth Day - success
|
|
|
.
A delightful event for World Labyrinth Day on May 1 at 1 pm
Last Saturday we had a lovely occasion for walking our labyrinth. It was a special time of prayer and meditation on peace in the world. Check out the brief video above (or click here) to get a feel for the event.
Our 5-circuit labyrinth is located outside on the northeast part of our church property, with shade and mountain views.

Help us Create a Tiled Bench Honoring Frank and Louise Rose
|
|
|
Photo of "Betsy's bench".
We are now welcoming contributions to a new tiled bench
NOTE: We are hoping to collect enough donations by Friday, May 21 so that we can get this new bench made and installed in June.
We would like to install a new bench at Sunrise Chapel in honor of Frank and Louise Rose. The bench will be tiled at Santa Teresa Tile Works using unique tiles that will be chosen to illustrate some of the things that Frank and Louise love about Tucson, the church, and the nature around us.
Have you seen the beautiful tiled bench that was created by the Women’s Group of Sunrise Chapel in honor of Betsy Gladish? It was placed on the East side of the Chapel at the Labyrinth, which Betsy helped create.
The cost of the bench is about $800. When we have reached our goal, a few people will go to the Tile Works to help create the bench. We will let everyone know when it is finished and ready to be placed.
If you would like to contribute you can either write a check to Sunrise Chapel and earmark it for the “Rose Bench” and send it to Sunrise Chapel, or you can give cash or a check to me.
Deadline for contributions: Friday May 21, 2021
Thank you!! Elise Gladish
