June is the month we celebrate the dawn of the New Church

Happy Birthday and anniversary to the New Church! Traditionally, we associate the beginning of our church with an event that Emanuel Swedenborg noted as happening on June 19, 1770. With his spiritual sight opened, he witnessed the Lord calling together the disciples and sending them throughout the whole spiritual world "to preach the gospel that the Lord God Jesus Christ reigns, and his kingdom will last for ages of ages." (True Christianity 791)

This time the Lord was making it clear that he would not be reappearing in a physical body. Rather, this second coming is a reference to a new understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ as the one God of heaven and earth.

This is what the Lord was referring to when he said, “He will send out his angels, and they will gather his chosen people from one end of the heavens to the other” (Matthew 24:31).

This experience is recorded in a postscript at the end of the final major volume of theology that Swedenborg published before his death in 1772.

This Sunday we will look at the significance of this experience in relation to our own spiritual lives. How can we - individually and collectively - encourage and celebrate a new dawn for the church within each of us?

CHURCH IS OPEN! with appropriate precautions
I'm very happy to see more folks feeling comfortable to come back to in-person attendance. It's so good to see you! And if you can't attend in person, I hope to "see you" online!

The CDC's guidance for fully vaccinated people
The CDC added a webpage of information about resuming activities after being "fully vaccinated." You can read it here.

It's up to each of us and our best judgment to decide when the time is right to return to in-person participation. I certainly welcome you if you feel comfortable! In the meantime, please continue to participate as much as possible either in-person or online!

Another Grant Request Granted!

Will you help us meet our part of the request? See below.

I am so very grateful for the generosity of the Asplundh Family Foundation for once again granting Sunrise Chapel funds to continue upgrading and maintaining our facilities and grounds!

This time they have awarded us $45,000 to help us with the following projects:

A: Continue to refresh the interior look and feel of our Friendship Hall wing so people appreciate it as a well-kept, safe, clean, functional, and welcoming church home:

• Refurbish two more bathrooms in Friendship Hall (two bathrooms have already been refurbished) (Approximately $8K)
• Replace more old flooring, sliding door screens, and drinking water fountains in the Friendship Hall wing (these well-worn items are over 25 years old) (Approximately $30K)

B: Continue to improve our property’s curb appeal from the street view:

• Maintain our parking lot and front landscaping (Approximately $12K)

As part of our "investment" in these projects, we now need to raise $3,000.

If you would like to support and promote these projects, please send your contribution to Sunrise Chapel via our treasurer. Please do NOT reduce your contribution to the general operating fund, which is our primary responsibility.

Also, if you are interested in volunteering to help work on any of these projects, please let Mike Villeburn know. He is our property manager and will most likely be overseeing the implementation of these projects in the coming months.

Book Study of "Window to Eternity"

We continue to have great discussion of this noteworthy book.

For this Monday, please read chapters 7 and 8: "Marriage in Heaven" and "Children in Heaven"

Meetings are held in person and on Zoom in the main Chapel from 2:30-4:00.

Thank you for your donations!
After reaching our donation goal, a team went to Santa Teresa Tile Works last Saturday to put the puzzle of all the tiles together into a beautiful bench in honor of Frank and Louise Rose. Not pictured, but part of the creative team, is Sue Carr. Thank you to each of you!

From the great variety of tiles on hand, they chose pieces and images to illustrate some of the things that Frank and Louise love about Tucson, the church, and the nature around us. They had fun! The Tile Works will complete the grouting process, including replacing that blank temporary tile with a tiled drawing of Sunrise Chapel.
