Winding down and winding up

For many years I have almost always sent my "Friday email update" by around the middle of the day. Yesterday was an exception. We had a firm deadline for packing up one of our moving containers, which was picked up at noon. We were scrambling. The day before, we also worked from dawn till beyond dusk. Once we said goodbye to the containers Friday afternoon, we were just spent. Moving takes a lot of time and energy!

But I am relieved to have that part of the process underway. And grateful for my health and strength and Elise's, too. Once again, we experienced a team effort. Now we are rattling around in our almost-empty home, continuing to enjoy the beauty of the setting and our companionship.

And as we wind down here, we're also winding up for Ethan and Jessica to arrive! We expect them to be in their home this Wednesday night, where they will quarantine for a time and find their bearings. I'm sure you will join in welcoming them with love and support for this new chapter in Sunrise Chapel's development.

You can help! If you want to add your welcome to the McCardell family by providing something they could use as they get settled, please call Linda Waddell to offer your help. They are also doing a container move, but their belongings will not arrive for several weeks.

For this Sunday, June 27, I want to share some ideas about planning for the future with hope.

We so enjoyed gathering last Saturday night at Kim and Claudia's beautiful home with so many friends in person! What a treat! Thank you to everyone who helped make it so special and amazing! The smorgasbord was delicious from savory appetizers to sweet desserts. Your verbal messages were so meaningful. When we got home, we read every card and felt your love all over again. Thank you for sharing!

I was blown away with the gift of this framed watercolor by our beloved Frank Rose. We will cherish the memories it will stir for us as we look back on this very special decade in our lives. Our hearts are warm with love and respect for each one of you and for Sunrise Chapel. "May the Lord upon you send His blessings."

Book Study of "Window to Eternity" concluded

HOWEVER, the group wants to continue, and welcomes you to join!

I'm so happy to have met with this small group to discuss "Window to Eternity," a wonderfully-written book. Such great conversation, and so many good questions! Last Monday we had our final session.

However, everyone loved the experience so much that there is interest by the group members to continue with a study of Swedenborg's work on Heaven and Hell!

The check came in the mail today!

I'm so very grateful for the generosity of the Asplundh Family Foundation for once again granting Sunrise Chapel funds to continue upgrading and maintaining our facilities and grounds!

This time they have awarded us $45,000 to help us with the following projects:

A: Continue to refresh the interior look and feel of our Friendship Hall wing so people appreciate it as a well-kept, safe, clean, functional, and welcoming church home:

• Refurbish two more bathrooms in Friendship Hall (two bathrooms have already been refurbished) (Approximately $8K)
• Replace more old flooring, sliding door screens, and drinking water fountains in the Friendship Hall wing (these well-worn items are over 25 years old) (Approximately $30K)

B: Continue to improve our property’s curb appeal from the street view:

• Maintain our parking lot and front landscaping (Approximately $12K)

NOTE: As part of our "investment" in these projects, we now need to raise $3,000.

If you would like to support and promote these projects, please send your contribution to Sunrise Chapel via our treasurer. Please do NOT reduce your contribution to the general operating fund, which is our primary responsibility.

Also, if you are interested in volunteering to help work on any of these projects, please let Mike Villeburn know. He is our property manager and will most likely be overseeing the implementation of these projects in the coming months.
